H said today that he'd like one for Christmas. So many of his cow records are going digital/have apps and it'd be handy to have it at his fingertips. Cheaper is better, since it spends half its life in the barn, who knows what will happen to it.
I'd also like it for work to throw some learning games on (I have an actual IPAD at work, but I don't let my kids near it real often, for fear they'll steal it. If they steal my $300.00 one I won't be as upset..lol.).
I'd also like to put some interactive story books on it for Rubes.
Basically, I just need the basics. Nothing special or over the top.
I don't have a single Apple device in my house, so that's not a factor with syncing or whatever either.
Amazon and Overstock seem to have some decent no name brands right now and I'm just wondering if it's worth it/I'm missing something. I already have a regular kindle, so I don't want to go the Fire route necessarily.
My dad is a tech professor and loves Microsoft but said their new tablet is super cheaply made. I'm on my fire right now. Not many complaints but I was pissed when they stopped being compatible with flash player but ipads aren't either.
I chose it over the iPad because it can be expanded (memory - SD cards) and it has HDMI outputs. And, it's cheaper. It's an Android so all Android apps work on it.
DH is anti apple majorly. He researched and bought the Samsung galaxy note. He likes it bc it works with flash, has office compatible software and apparently will also talk to our Samsung tv.
DH has an HP Touchpad. He got it a year ago on Black Friday, so the price was great then. I'm not sure how much it usually costs. It's the same size as the original iPad, so finding accessories is really easy. He really likes it. Pretty soon we'll put some aps on it for DD.
My mom has a Galaxy Tab. She really likes that. It's also easy to use (hence my mother having it). It's much smaller and lighter than DH's Touchpad.
I have an Asus transformer prime with the keyboard. Love it! It is not as proprietary as Apple products.
I just bought one of these for hubby for Xmas. I'm on my fire right now and love it but I think you'd rather have a 10inch for what you want. The asus line has an optional keyboard doc you can buy. Very nice.
Thanks girls! H and I bought a Insignia Flex today. BIL works at corporate of the superstore that sells them exclusively. He's very honest (he really has no stake in what I buy) and knowledgeable. He told me for the money, it was the best value and the things the true tech geeks would complain about in reviews I'd never notice for what I need (tv watching on the treadmill, farm records, kid games, magazine reading). I already have a plain kindle and a good camera which I love and we're not gamers at all. I also have a pretty high end laptop, I'm too scared to take anywhere as a result, so I wanted something plain and easy. I mean it's not like hanging out on this board requires a lot of advanced tech.
That and I bought the damn thing for $149 so if it sucks I'll return it no worries and if I drop it on the barn floor six months from no love overly lost.

I got my husband this about 6 months ago and he LOVES it so much - he was hogging my Ipad and complaining about the proprietary stuff that you can't see on it. So - I got him the Asus. My boss also has an Asus and raves about it as well. Just my 2 cents dairy - what a great gift to consider!

R wants either a nook HD or a Nexus 7. He likes the nook because it has HDMI out ... so we can hook it up to a tv and stream if we're in a hotel or at the parentals or something.
