I am sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel bad.....if I remember right it just looked like your drapes were partially closed and I was wondering if you could push them back any, or if that was how they were hung. I am sure it looks just fine....honestly....I run my mouth too much. I try to be helpful and offer suggestions because I sometimes feel like everyone is all sunshine and roses, "your room is perfect just the way it is," when someone is looking for ideas on how to finish it off.
I like receiving ideas/suggestions for ways I can improve, but sometimes I like to offer suggestions when I should just keep my mouth shut.
I just put curtains up this weekend. Our windows are 27" wide. I mounted the rods 10" past the molding. Honestly, it's too wide. I'm going down to 7.5" past the molding.
I don't remember the PIP, but maybe you can just extend the bar out another inch past the bracket? I did that downstairs in our living room and it helped a lot.
I'm not a huge proponent of the high and wide b/c I know my ceilings are 8' and my windows are 35". DH also laughed at me when I said something about mounting the curtains at the crown downstairs, so I pick my decor battles.
I think I may have been the one who asked about the window....sorry.
There are a lot of variables (size of window, wall space, weight of panels, number of panels, etc.), that play into how wide you hang them. As a general rule, you want the panels to hang nicely just barely covering the trim at the side of the window, so that it shows as much window as possible while looking like the window could continue under the curtains. That is where the proportion/variables all come into play.
In the end, it is really about what functions for you and what looks good to you, unless you want to impress people who obsess about decorating. ;p
I remember seeing that comment and recognizing in the picture what they were commenting on. I think the trick is that when your curtains are opened that they are just covering the side trim so that there is the illusion that there is more of the window hidden by the curtain. As far a high, I'm really not good at figuring that one out.

I remember the comment and I don't think it was the suggestion itself that was bad, but the way you presented it. I actually agreed that the curtains would probably look better hung wider, but the fact that you asked if her window was that narrow and added a "LOL" at the end made it read really rude, IMO. I know that it is difficult to ascertain tone on a messageboard, but I'm not even the OP and felt it was a little snarky.
I don't recall laughing at her window, but if I did it was not what I meant.
I probably said LOL because I was trying to keep the comment light and not sound like it was a harsh criticism.
Sigh....sometimes I feel like suggestions or helpful critiques cannot be given on this board. Everyone gets their panties in a knot if everything isn't all sunshine and rainbows. I already apoligised and I will say it again, I am sorry if my suggestion came across rudely. I was just trying to be helpful.

I wouldn't worry about it. I get in trouble all the time for being too honest. It's only curtains. It's only a suggestion. I love your advice, keep it up. I don't always take it because our styles are a bit different but you always make a valid point that at least makes me think about a new direction to take or a different spin on your idea. Decor is different and subjective for everybody. I don't think anyone takes it overly seriously...or at least they shouldn't. If you like it whatever. And yes, to the pp we all add LOL around here out of habit or to the lighten the mood/let it be known we have an idea..not to mock somebody.

I am mostly a lurker, so I figured that I would get some backlash over posting that.
I have no problem with people saying LOL and, as I said, I also have no problem with people giving suggestions or their honest opinions, but that post specifically stuck out in my head as somewhat rude. Obviously, it was stated in a way that stuck out to the OP also. I just think there is a way to do it nicely and this time peach missed the mark.

I think Peach is probably not being rude with her opinions unless she outright says something is fug.
OMG JENNYLOVE YOUR CURTAINS ARE HUNG FUG. (JK. I hope you knew that though.)
Not sure I saw the photo, but I'm good with them hung high but wide I can't do. Actually, I'm not good at curtains hung high either. I am really awful at sticking to rules. (I'm GBCN'ing while my boss stands in front of my desk. :x)
Ha fia! Ive been called and told lots of things in my day here. I still come back and run my mouth keyboard style. Sometimes honesty is good. I mean you all told me my tree curtains looked like the nightmare before christmas and swayed me away. After i cried becaus no one saw my vision i laughed and bought prettier ones. Its the only the internet. If id have truly loved them id have bought them. Its also why Jesus is ontop of the fridge.
dairy, you're not helping me ...I was the one who said those curtains looked like the nightmare before Christmas. But in my defense, I only said it because I was 100% sure you would snort over it and not get your panties in a bunch.
Jenny, if you want to post a pic again I am sure we can help you out. I often go halfway between the window and the ceiling, I find hung right at the ceiling looks weird in rooms that aren't "Designer perfect"....it just looks like WTF did you do?? Its nice in theory, but in a lot of average/casual rooms it looks too weird.
And I am glad you weren't offended by my suggestions. I can be blunt sometimes but it's all meant to be helfpul- and if I offend you, you know you can just call me out on it. I'm a big girl
Peach! I was joking in the hopes you would catch it! Sarcasm fail on my part. . I got your back always. And yes i did snort. It was a classic line. you know it takes more than that to get me upset.

There's a formula that works, for eight foot ceilings, anyway. Hand them so the rod is just below halfway between window and ceiling, ie, top of the rod is on the halfway line, a fraction lower if you have a gather sticking up over the rod height. You want to be able to see an inch or two of wall between curtain/rod and crown. I would say you'd stay at the same distance from the trim no matter what the ceiling height, to make sure the window treatment stays anchored to the actual window.
I think they look great the way they are. Are they supposed to be further out? Good Lord, whoever picked on your curtains would have a field day with mine.
Full disclosure - the original picture was of my chandelier and the curtains will pulled over 1/4 of the window on each side to hide the cracked pane I've since opened them up as far as I could.
ETA: Basically only the 4 middle panes were exposed at that time, so 1/2 of the window.
It's awkward though how my house has these tall windows in the middle of each wall because then I'm left trying to decorate 'ends' so pulling the curtains out will help me there.
I honestly don't remember who asked about my window size - doesn't matter
ok, it was me then. I remember asking if your drapes were half closed...
I think it just seemed off to me because the window was barely peeking out and I wondered if it was a tiny window or what was going on. You should have just said they were half closed, silly girl! They aren't even that much too narrow in the photo you just posted...a teeny bit but if thats all it is I would be too lazy to move them and patch holes in my wall.
