I have ear plugs in and am asleep. I hear none of this.
The hotel reception calls around 11pm. They say H's car alarm is going off. He goes down and it isn't his alarm. He checks his car and it's unlocked (Opps!) and his Garmin and money is gone. He sees a guy there who says "I just ran off the guy..." he takes off.
Dave comes back up to inform me I left the car unlocked and someone broke in. Shit.
A few hours later, another call. I hear this one. Police are here. Dave goes down. They caught the guy (why he would stick around while car alarms are going off is beyond me).
So they want Dave to id him. It was dark but then the guy opens his mouth. " it wasn't me. I ran the guy off who did it." BINGO. Plus they find the Garmin and money (it wasn't US currency so pretty obvi). The cops say they couldn't charge him since Dave didn't see him in the act. Well, don't you know, they're talking to a defense attorney. This is his life. So, Dave rattles off how and why it can be proven and charged. The cops decide to charge something else though, which Dave doesn't think can be proven.
So another criminal goes free probably.
Oh and I'd say we have pretty decent luck. I mean yeah, weve been victim of a burglary twice and both times the fuckers were caught and our stuff returned.
What gets me though is all the scumbags lurking. The one time I left the garage open after checking the mail - someone got us. And the one time I leave the car unlocked. When I was a kid, we didn't hav to lock our house. What the hell happened?

Geez! That is crazy! Glad you were able to get your stuff back! Hotel parking garages seem like a good place for bad guys to lurk - out of town people with cash stuffed in the car, and garmins.. lot of stuff to take in travelers cars - Jerks. I grew up always being able to get into my Grandmas house bc she never kept it locked.ever. Even when she would go to North Carolina she would leave the house unlocked. We left our house in Davenport unlocked, and i NEVER locked my car {it wasn't kept in a garage, just in the driveway}.
Nutso! I still giggle a little when I think of the guy trying to ride your bike with clipless pedals down the street. Oops. So what currency did you have? I have a Bahamian $1 and a Canadian $20 stashed around here somewhere but that's about all. Wicked cool that you got your money back! And I'm glad you made it to your vacation with the hubby! Enjoy

Honduran money I don't know why.
And get this. The guy was caught BREAKiNG INtO A HOuSE!!! The cops checked the last address on the Garmin and it brought them to our hotel. That's how he was caught.
The lady working the hotel said she would try to get us a free night. I talked to the manager today who was rude and said hell to the no.

Wow, what an idiot. Sounds like quite a night. Geez.
Oh another thing about your op. do you always travel with earplugs? Isn't that uncomfortable? I used to try and sleep with them when I had a roommate with barking dogs but they were just as bad. Maybe I just didn't have the good ones.

I wear them because DH snores a little. He did not snore before we were married. I don't know where it came from. I am cranky when he snores. He is cranky when I wake him up.
I actually used to hate them, but I found some that fit great. I couldn't hear the phone ring or H talking to people on it.
