I'd get them individual gifts if you can afford it. way more fun. If you are trying to save money, then maybe a Wii game? Tickets to an event like ice skating show? Tickets to the zoo?

I got group gifts this year. For my nephews I got then the whole setup for a beta fish and $10 for the fish and a plant. For my nieces I got them a big box of craft stuff. Paper, felt, stickers, glitter, beads, etc.
(I didn't do boy/girl gifts specifically. The boys are one sister's and the girls another's.)
I always get my nieces and nephews shared presents and individual. The siblings are all close enough in age that I buy books that they'll both enjoy (this year my brother's kids (6 and 5) are getting a box set of the boxcar children and my sister's kids (2 and 1) are getting a pretty bound collection of fairy tales for bedtime stories), but then they also get clothes so they have their own personal presents to open.
but my siblings aren't terribly well off so stuff like clothes are really appreciated and we're on a bit of a tight budget ourselves. So I'm not sure that's helpful.
What if you all gave them the same thing that was an outing? So give them a big gc to the local movie theatre (maybe even enough to cover some snacks) and then a gc to the local ice cream/fro yo place?
Do they like to play games? You could put together a "Game Night" basket and fill it with board games and card games they could play as a family. My brother and I are 7 years apart in age, and we got something like this from my aunt and uncle one. We loved it and it got us spending time together as a family.
We've given a 'movie night' package to nieces and nephews before. Some movies that we knew they wanted (or a rental gift card), a whirly pop popper and some popcorn.
