I went to the H's work Christmas party on Saturday, and they had a DJ (it was just like a wedding reception, minus the bride/groom and wedding party- 150 ppl or so). The music was pretty good. There was free booze. I was one of 3 on the dance floor. Everyone else simply stood around bobbing their heads. I'm sure I looked like a nerd, but I had a good time.
Yes, but it depends on the crowd. My friend and family are "party" people so it's the normal. Hs friends/relatives not so much. My old coworkers rocked at this sort of thing..my new ones not so much.
Well...we do SOME. You know people expect us to perform like trained circus monkeys. They just stand and clap at us "Dance! Dance!" so we do...a little.
We just want to hang out with people and drink adult beverages and not have to focus on technique LOL

Ha! Yeah, this has got to suck for you guys. I mean free style non-technique having a good time dancing.

Exactly! I'd like to "MC Hammer" a little and not have people question me ;D LOL
We royally ticked off people at our wedding but not having a choreographed dance. Oh, well
I can two step, waltz, jitterbug, salsa, etc. But don't put a "dance mix" on an expect me to be a willing participant. There was very little of that type of music at our wedding, on purpose. The DJ tried to convince us otherwise, but it worked and the dance floor stayed full.
I won't be the only person on the dance floor, but I will totally dance if there are others doing it. Either actual dancing dancing where I just helplessly try to follow MH's lead and not step on him (he's a good dancer. I...am not) or just shaking my booty.
Not at all. Me and t both hate being looked at. Even though we know we aren't the center of attention, we don't like attention to be drawn to us at all.
I would love to take ballroom dancing lessons so that we can really have a great first dance and I can have a great dance with my pops.

This is us. We "real" dance, but don't expect us to get out and dance like at a club. Weddings and parties here are almost exclusively live bands that do '50s, '60s and '70s covers - sounds strange, but it's a blast, everyone from kids to great grandparents gets out and dances and the dance floor is packed all night.

Yes! Though I'm really not into solo dancing or the style that is popular these days. But I love contra, square, English country, swing, and ballroom. At DH's work Christmas party 2 years ago, there was a big band (15 or so pieces), and nobody dancing but us. In fact, everybody else left by like 9pm, but the band told us they'd been paid to stay until 10... so we danced the night away, just us and the ginormous band. It was slightly weird, but mostly just awesome.
I will dance to pretty much anything....pretty much anywhere. I will try pretty much any kind of dance, but not all are for public viewing. DH and the pups (mostly the pups) get to see my hip hop, samba, Bollywood, ballet, Fosse and Gangnam style moves. They all give me the raised eyebrow/you are so weird look. Often. ;p
DH will dance, but he isn't a very good dancer, except the two step and he can manage some basic swing. He has musicality, but doesn't have the moves. We took ballroom lessons and he did pretty well, but he isn't a natural.

I'll join others on the dance floor, but not by myself. I kinda suck at being creative. H is useless as a dancer - we have trouble with a middle-school slow sway in the kitchen. Sigh. Also, he bites his lip when he's doing anything requiring concentration, so if I CAN talk him into dancing, I find myself trying not to look at his face because I just can't stop giggling.
