If you started a new job mid year, were you able to immediately get signed up for an FSA?
My husband's HR people are saying we have to wait until Jan 2013, and that doesn't sound right. I assume she knows what she is talking about, but is that how it usually is at a new job?

Every time I have started a new job I was able to begin the FSA immediately but I could only be reimbursed for expenses after I started my job. I guess it's possible the company could have their own policy, but I really have no idea.

That doesn't sound right at all (in fact its not correct, im a benefit admin), unless for some reason he isn't eligible for any other benefits until Jan 2013 as well.

That does not sound correct unless all benefits start Jan 13. Can he request his benefit info already or will they not give it to him? If they won't give it to him yet since he's not eligible (crappy, btw, but I've seen it happen) does he have someone there that has an SPD?
It has now come to light that he missed his benefit window for this. He was supposed to sign up at the same time he signed up for medical benefits and it would've started the same day as the medical benefits, but he says he was never told that.
And after all that nagging, I was sure it got through to him that these things can't wait until he feels like getting around to it.
We had planned on TTC again, and now we will be paying a lot more for it.
