Long time, no chat. I've been super busy... No time to post much.
In case you don't remember me, I have 2 dogs, Chilly & Pepper. Chilly is a golden mix & Pepper is a... Ummmm... Blue heeler mix?? They're doing great. Chilly just turned two & is starting to calm down. Pepper is an angel, as always.
Anyway, this post isn't about my dogs. I have a friend who recently adopted a deaf, adult boxer/Dalmatian mix. She's a first time adult pet owner. She lives in a large apartment complex that she just moved into.
She knew they allowed dogs. She asked about the deposit & adopted the dog. She went to pay them the deposit & found out the mix was on the 'bad dog' list. She didn't even know there was such a list to begin with.
I told her to ask the vet to list the dog as another type of mix, but she hasn't gotten that far yet. The dog is white, so it's kind of hard to pretend she's a lab.
I feel so bad because this dog already has a strike against her being deaf. Any ideas?

I hate those lists with the fire of a thousand suns. Will they make an exception if they meet the dog and she can demonstrate how well-behaved the dog is? Can she offer to get a private insurance policy (it's usually the apartment complex's insurance that prohibits certain breeds)?
I'm surprised they didn't mention the list when she inquired about the deposit. Are the prohibited breeds spelled out in her lease?
I was angry that they didn't tell her about the list beforehand either. It didn't cross my mind either as we haven't lived in an apt.complex in quite a few years. I remember how frustrating it was though.
