All the tourist info we read before we left said that your car will get broken into no matter what, So take your belongings out and leave your rental car unlocked so the theifs can check it out and move on, and you will save on the fees for fixing a smashed out window.

We kept our car locked and windows didn't get broken. That advice is mostly for the really touristy areas of Waikiki. It's just so obvious which cars are rentals which equals dollar dollar bills.
Oh yeah, just paid my parking ticket today. You're welcome city of St Pete. Red Mesa and Cafe Alma closed for the holiday but sure enough the meter police were on full duty. Sigh.
