Mine all have their own phones, and they got them around 11-12 years old as they were out more at activities and with friends etc. and I wanted a way to track and reach them. The older two (19 and 16) have had social media at high school age, but I have access to passwords etc and can check it out when I want (19 year old not so much anymore lol). 11 year old just got her phone for her birthday this year. She texts with her friends and has messenger kids to talk to friends who don’t have texting/phones. No social media for her until high school. She asks for it on a weekly basis 😅

Mine are older and younger - 19, 16, and 11. The older two got summer gym memberships and are both taking summer classes (one is summer school not by choice 😅) and babysitting here and there.
My 11 year old is going to do a few day camps throughout the summer but we aren’t doing a crazy packed schedule this year. We normally have a lot going on and kind of want to chill for a bit.
I'm really sad my oldest son is coming up on his senior year. I feel like it all went by way too fast! :-(
*hugs* It’s insane how fast it goes. My oldest is in college, middle is going to be a senior, and youngest is entering middle school. I’m glad there’s a little gap between middle and youngest 😭
DD had a huge argument with her friend group yesterday and they "kicked" her out. I think she was most upset that her "BFF" sided with them at the time. They were all going to the school counselor today to work it out.
Seeing her sobbing and upset that 'everyone hates her' was just heartbreaking. Middle school is so rough.
Middle school is truly hell. My youngest is finishing 5th grade this week and I’m not ready for middle school drama again. Your poor dd, that’s so hard 😢
piggybacking off of Wanderingback's comments, do a lot of kids drink anymore? It feels like drinking is like a 70s/80s/90s thing for kids. IDK at least the high schoolers/college kids that i know are much more responsible than I was at that age and none of them really party.
Around here weed and vaping seem more popular than drinking. There are definitely parties and drinking but it’s not as prevalent as when we were in high school. My older two (19 and 16) don’t drink and not many of their friends do, either.

It’s been pretty divisive for me with friends. In my friend group, only one other couple has been taking things as seriously as I have. I have done a few socially distant hangouts with them (outside, masks, 6 ft+ space). Most of my other friends have been hanging out in large groups/gatherings the whole time, and they roll their eyes or tease when I refuse to participate. My kids friends have all been hanging out with each other, while mine have been quarantined since March. I finally took them on a camping trip last week, which was a nice, socially distant break. It’s been hard.
My area in general seems to be giving up on the orders in place, which to me is INSANE. I understand that the curve is flattening in other places, but it’s rapidly rising in my area. We are the worst county in cases per capita in California. We have 2 tiny hospitals, which have been pushed to capacity and are diverting patients to other hospitals through the state. The county is pushing to reopen while ignoring the data and metrics that must be met for reopening. I work front desk/retail at a small salon/boutique and we recently reopened the boutique part to in store customers again. Thankfully everyone seems to be complying with masks etc. but the whole thing freaks me out.

Oh, Cleo. I'm so sorry. I'm not around here often anymore but wanted to let you know I am thinking of you. My divorce is almost final and while it has been a tough road, things are starting to feel much better. Hugs, lady.

This drives me up the freaking wall. My oldest (14) is told at every well check that she needs to lose 5 pounds, because her BMI is in the higher range. She's definitely "thick" but I wouldn't call her overweight or obese. She's happy with her body and I hate that a doctor tells a 14 year old girl to diet every time she's in his office. Then on the flip side, my younger two are tall and skinny and he tells them they need to drink pediasure and gain 5 pounds every time they're in his office. Where's the happy medium?
Not a parent yet, but I think frequency of use, them being safe, age, etc, would all color how I handled it. Driving around and hot boxing a car? No way. Smoking with friends on some weekends during their senior year? Little more lax. I'd prefer they wait, but I would try not to lose my cool if I found out. It wasn't my gateway drug (I started with harder drugs) and I know a lot of friends that just smoked and that was it. Harsh punishment didn't stop any of us from experimenting but it made us sneaky and unable to go to our parents if we needed a ride or anything.
This is how I feel about it. I don't want my freshman doing it yet but I don't think I would be super upset if she did occasionally as a junior/senior. I also think I'd be more upset with cigarettes.

My 14 year old gets it at least once or twice per year. Last year she had it twice in one summer! Her doc wants her to have a consultation on removing her tonsils. The other two have never had it.

I'm overwhelmed with end of the year events and activities, so of course I am procrastinating here! Heyyy, everyone! C's 8th grade promotion is in like a week and a half so we are busy with practices and gown fittings and high school tours and meetings with HS counselors to pick classes. I can't believe it's time for this already!

Have you ever competed in equestrian pursuits? Do you have any ties to the Chicago area? Are you or have you ever been a nanny? Does the name "Joey" mean anything to you?

My girls get OwlCrate and OwlCrate JR, which are super fun for them. I haven't really tried any subscription boxes for myself, although I have been thinking about getting the book box mentioned above by Circa.

It's fairly common here, or maybe it just seems common to me since we homeschool. It's a pretty good mix of Bible-thumping, religious homeschoolers and secular homeschoolers around here.

Oh, and the hardest part is eating differently than the rest of the family. One of my daughters is a pescatarian. The others are solid meat eaters! The whole family eats plant based meals probably 2-3 nights a week but the rest of the time I tweak portions for myself or cook an entirely different thing. I freeze a lot of stuff so I can just pull out a single serving for myself.
1. Has anyone switched to this kind of diet and noticed any positive or negative changes to their physical or mental health?
2. What diet do you follow and why?
3. How did you adopt this diet (gradual vs. cold-turkey), and what was the hardest part? What foods do you miss?
4. Any good books for normal people (ie:non-crazies) that could help with adopting this kind of diet?
5. Anything else I need to think about or consider?
I try to eat mostly plant-based. I'm not a strict vegan/vegetarian (I do eat some cheese and eggs occasionally, but try to steer clear of meat). I have severe endometriosis and I have found that a plant-based diet works best for my symptoms. I also try to stay away from refined sugar, processed foods, alcohol, soy, and gluten. Which sounds fucking terrible and it is HARRRRD sometimes but like I said, I'm not crazy strict about it. I just try to stick with it as much as possible.
I really like the Veganomicon book, as someone mentioned above. One of my favorite resources right now is Mamaeatsplants on Instagram. She has a blog as well. There are several vegan/plant based accounts on IG that I follow and I love them!

I don't post much anymore, but I come read a few times a week. It's still where my bored fingers take me when I'm on the computer. I don't think I will ever fully leave. I've been here forEVAH.
