I'm a newbie knitter. I made one sweater for DS in February, I've almost finished my first knit stuffed mouse and now I'm working on another sweater for DS.
Thing is, I'm slooow as, well, the craft board. I think I finished 4 cm over 4 or 5 nights (the weight of the yarn for this sweater is fine, as opposed to the worsted weight sweater I made last time). At this rate, DS will have his new sweater by spring.
How long have you been knitting and how long did it take you to really get "good." I mean, I know there are lots of different levels so this is hard to describe on a forum, but I'm just curious. Thanks

I love those! I think I'm going to have to add this to my "to craft" list. DS needs a pumpkin hat to go to the pumpkin patch. And he'll need a dinosaur hat too, obv.
Nice job! And congratulations on becoming an aunt x 2!
That's cute! Looks like a smush tush. Am I right? I keep wanting to order a diaper from her, but my stash is great and I really can't justify it! Next baby...

You're amazing J! Nice work and I love love love the vintage boat pants. They look so cute on him. I forget if you have the pattern info in your blog, and I'll check there. But if you don't, can you tell me so that I can try to find it. I might just have to make those for Q.
Oh I love that!! I might need to make one for DS for this winter. Awesome.
ETA: nevermind. My mom is the one teaching me to knit and she's French. i.e. therefore I'm learning to knit in French. I have no idea what that pattern is saying.
The pattern is very simple to read, you just need to understand the shorthand. Most patterns are written in this style, or in chart form, so it would be really good to learn or you'll severely limit your pattern options! Many professionally-written patterns will include a glossary for what the abbreviations mean, but some of the basics are:
CO = cast on K = knit P = purl K2tog = knit 2 stitches together
www.knittinghelp.com is a great free resource for learning stitches. And you can always ask here if you get stuck. I promise this pattern is pretty easy, and with it you can learn how to knit in the round and how to do an i-cord (you can look up both on the Knitting Help website).
Thank you, that's very helpful. I know I will need to learn the English terms and abbreviations. Maybe I'll dive in with this
Did the pattern you used call for the french seam and give that allowance in it, or did you have to add it to the pattern? I confused myself just asking that quesitons.
The pattern included the french seams instructions and seam allowance.

Wow! Nice job! I have not attempted a french seam yet!
The French seams ended up being NBD. Definitely more time-consuming than serging, but you really just need to be able to sew a straight line to do them. I used some online tutorials to guide me through it.

I made this dress with a pattern I bought on Etsy (the Waldorf pattern from 5Berries for anyone interested) for my friend's little girl's first birthday. I made it in 24 months because her chest measurement was only .5" smaller than the 24 month size. It ended up being pretty long on her, but I'm glad she will be able to wear it for a while.
I had so much fun making it! If only I had a DD to sew for. I've made some cute stuff for DS too, but I've decided dresses are addicting.
Here are some pictures of it:
(gotta PIP the French seams for you ladies. It was my first time doing them and I love them! I have a serger, but I really like how clean this looks).
More pictures are in my blog, linked below (along with some of my friend's daughter wearing it).
So, my little man's first birthday party was yesterday. sniff sniff! I was a little stressed up until the start of the festivities because I *kind of* got in over my head, but everything was great!

Gosh I initially thought you were telling us you were IN labor when I read the post title. I thought to myself, okay okay, now I love crafting, BUT....not enough to sew in between contractions.
Looking forward to seeing how well your wrap works out!
That's Anthro for you! They have some of the most ridiculous sh!t- and some fool will buy it!
I use FOE hairbands to tie up my hair overnight- I have insanely thick, thick, thick hair and it's long (and grows ridiculously fast), so they don't work for me during the day. Just not strong enough. But, they're so soft and don't tug at all, so perfect for me to keep it out of my face at night.
The stuff is less than a buck for 2 yards- how many can you make out of that? At least twelve, would be my guess. Nuts. FOE actually dyes really easily, too- with wool acid dyes (so just vinegar+food coloring in a crockpot/microwave!) so you could just buy a yard or two of white and go nuts dying it.
That sounds like fun, since I do like using these hairbands. And obviously, more colors=more fun. I'll have to try that at some point.
