For all of C's class parties this year I signed up to bring treats. In past years other who didn't sign up bring items so the kids have so many treats on their plate. So for Halloween I made jack-o-lanterns out of oranges and filled with fruit. Of course, no one else brought anything so that was the only snack at the party. H was there and I wasn't. He said the kids liked it.
Fast Forward to last night when I get an e-mail from the room parent reminding everyone who signed up for this party what their roles were. She also adds in
"Ms. X really loved how well the Halloween party went, which seemed to have well organized games and a quick pace. And, she noted the kids seem to respond well to sweety-treats like cakes, cookies, etc.. (well, don't we all)."
Since there were no "sweety-treats" at the party I assume she was telling me not to bring fruit this time. So I responded that this time I will make cupcakes and said "I guess the kids didn't like the Halloween treat" She responds back and tells me they were cute but yes the kids didn't enjoy them.
WTF. Yes, I would be annoyed. Beggars can't be choosers and besides, I think that what you sent sounds awesome and lots better for the kids than "sweety treats" which I am sure they get plenty of. Ugh. This would make me want to bring in stockings full of brussell sprouts and celery sticks.
yeah, CJ you really need to not expose the kids to adorably presented healthy snacks. Kids don't get nearly enough sweety-treats for special occasions and might not understand JUST how SPECIAL of an occasion it really is without cupcakes.
Duh. I feel bad for her that she had to explain this to you.

Excuse me? That is so rude. As a fellow parent I would be really pleased with what you brought especially considering how much candy the kids will eat at Halloween anyway.
I dare you to bring fruit again this time - Christmas tree shapes. haha
I would be super pissed and point out to her that you were the only person that brought something! And yeah I would take another healthy snack to stick it to her-lol!
The more I think about this, the more I am starting to hate this woman. I go back and forth on whether I my preferred response would be to send more fruit or to send wildly inappropriate "sweety treats." Perhaps you could give each child a can of Coke and one of those giant Pixy Stix?
Annoyed? No. Furious? Yes. The gall she had to say that was pretty unbelievable. I really don't get snarking on fruit either. I mean, good grief, like kids don't get enough junk as it is.
FWIW, my son would have come unglued at your Halloween treat. An orange filled with other fruit?! He'd have pounded it in a minute and then wondered if he could have seconds.
I would be pissed and my guess is that the teachers wanted the sweet treats. I would make whatever you want--if she wants sweet treats, tell her to supply them herself. I for one, would be glad someone was giving my kid something other than candy, cake and sugar.

Yeah I'd be pretty annoyed....probly beyond annoyed and just before livid. It pisses me off that the fruit was frowned upon....my daughter would have loved it. I'd make carrot spice or zucchini cupcakes
