Random and AW-y, but what the hell, it's slow.
This comes off of a conversation/argument about diversity I had with someone today.
I know a lot of you know already, but just based on appearance, what would you guess my kid's ethnic background is? I'll try to post a few pics that show his coloring and features pretty clearly, with both shortish hair and longer hair. Give me your guesses.
ETA: I didn't think it loaded, it was just circling on my computer. I went to do some work and came back and found a bunch of CHEATERS! Don't answer if you know, y'all! Are you really guessing based on his looks, or on what you know about me? Maybe everyone's just better at this game than I am.
Geez, I need someone to post on ML for me, where they don't know me, lol.
I know so I won't guess. But I'm intrigued by the answers.
This. And mostly because I am sure my hypothetical child will probably go through the same thing. I joke that they will probably think I am their nanny.
That's what I would guess. I'm not sure I even know but that's my guess.
I hate being mixed for this reason. People can be so ignorant about it IRL. Shit like "what are you?" bothers me. Sorry, got off on tangent because I dealt with this last night because I like country music. Apparently, black people can't do that. 8-D 8-D

I always pictured you as a white blond girl, Bliss. I don't know why.

LOL. I think a lot of people do. I get insulted like a white girl all the time; I get called "uppity bitch" pretty regularly. Or told that I just need a "real black man" to "show me the light."
ETA - Sorry to thread jack. Dr. G, your son is adorable.
My first guess was mixed, black and Hispanic (PR or similar). Having read all the comments about his him being part Indian, I can see that but it wasn't my first thought.
I do know and that's what I would have guessed if I didn't know.
I'm assuming you're asking because people guess otherwise, what do people usually say?
What do you think?
It's funny, I think sometimes these things are like Rorshach tests! To me, he looks Hispanic, but I think that might just be because that was the only real minority where I grew up. My mom likes to say he looks like "a little Indian boy" and she's from India, so I don't know if that's what she's familiar with or what. I do also see the resemblance between him and two other kids at daycare who are white/black multiracial, though. I'm fascinated that people could actually guess that combo of Indian and black, I had never seen it until my cousin had kids a few years before me. It must be much more common in some places.

The second picture is what got me thinking Indian. He looks slightly darker than most white/black kids I know, but that's hard to tell from a picture. Of course you never really know. DD is white/black and is really pale especially in the winter.
I did not know your ethnicity (well, before reading the thread, anyway). My first thought was black/white. Then right after I saw all the pictures, I amended that to white/middle eastern possibly east Indian. Then I saw the hair, and thought, White with curly hair gene/Middle eastern, or possibly Black/Middle Eastern.
I knew your child's race so I couldn't guess. My guess would have been Black and "something". I think people can often see the features of their own race in others. He lookis like my biracial cousins who are Black and Mexican. But I also know biracial Black and White people who have his same coloring.
