We are both getting raises and promotions semi-regularly. I currently make more than H (almost exactly 8% more) but he will get an 8% raise next month (his annual raise) and then he'll make the same as me. Before I got my recent promotion he made more than me, but not by a lot. Our incomes have been pretty equal for the most part throughout our relationship.
I feel the need to add that he switched industries a few years back (we were both editors, but then he got his MBA). When we were both editors, I earned a lot more than him

i earn about 5 times what my husband earns now, however, his ultimate earning potential is greater than mine once he finishes his residency (2.5 years away!)
It's variable. H makes more and gets much, much better benefits. But I get much larger, but irregular bonuses. So he makes more on paper, but I have the potential to make more in theory. So the percentage differential in what we take home at any given month or year differs, even though our salaries stay the same.
I don't know if my GA will be reported on my w2. Even if it is, SO will report 12x more income.
We will narrow the gap when I start my career in a couple of years, but I can never expect to make as much as he does when I will make most of my money from Medicare and Medicaid.
He makes about 20% more but works 5 hours of OT every week and has had quite a few awards this year (they don't limit our patent awards like they do perfomance ones). Our base salaries are only about a 10% difference.

I make almost twice as much on a W2 basis, but DH's job has benefits while mine does not. He is also a regular FTE with all the stability that imples, while I'm a consultant and can count on being laid off regularly. So I think it evens out.
