this will shock ALL of you but wine. When we moved in this house our movers (friends) remarked about how many bottles of wine we had and we counted...68. Since that time, we have gained more than we drank. Our problems lie in this: -We go out to drink, rarely drink at home, and rarely have dinners worthy of opening wine. -When we entertain, H says "that one is mine, don't serve that" so I go out an buy a bottle of wine to serve -we go to a ton of wine festivals, buy several (even if we limit ourselves it's a few) -when we have parties and serve wine, people bring us a bottle
This new years, I purposely made the theme "wine and food pairings" and H gave me a difficult time because I wanted to open 12...we compromised to 9...he's still bitching because most of those didn't get drunk...so now we have 9+ bottles of open wine which will probably go to waste BUT I'm happy they just got opened.
BTW, we're not talking vintage wines here, most of them are sweeter varietals which you really shouldn't age.
How big are y'alls places that you can stockpile everything?
My house is pretty small, so I only buy the bare minimum. Like if there's a huge pack, even if I know I will use it all (but it will take a long time), I still buy the smaller size. Just less cost outlay at the beginning and less to store.
You all would be horrified in that I *use* the shampoos and conditioners and soaps from the hotels. Use them right up, every bottle, the days I come home from the hotel. I have zero brand loyalty to toiletries.
However, this no stockpiling at all often leads to realizing I'm out of deodorant or contact solution when I'm heading out to work or something, which is very disorganized.
So now, if it's getting low, I write it down. I'm super low maintenance though, I don't use a lot of things besides shampoo (any kind will do), razors, deodorant, and makeup (and it lasts me like a year--I buy it every birthday).

If this is horrifying, I will be horrifying right along with you. I use Cetaphil on my face, but aside from that, soap is soap, and hotel shampoo/conditioner/soap is just fine. We have quite the stash from our travels.
However, and TBF, I wasn't able to use hotel-grade shampoo until I stopped dying my hair.

Pens, lip products, hair ties. BBW soaps and body care products. Gloves. I also have a ton of clothes and need to go on a retail shopping ban. Oh, boxes of generic Crystal Lite wild strawberry single-serving "sticks." I always have a ton of those lying around at home, at work, and in my car, and I keep some in my purse as well.
I have such a hoarder mentality.
ETA - I forgot about candles and Wallflower bulbs from BBW. I also have a LOT of those!

Say what? You opened 9 bottles and NONE of them got used up? You have light drinkers as friends.
Maybe use them for cooking? Dont' waste wine, for the love of everything holy.
After having watched Hoarders, I stayed away from stockpiling anything. Food are used up in cycles. Books were given away. Magazines are donated/given/thrown away. We have too much crap as it is for DINKS.
Prior to this, I also used to collect hotel toiletries for memories 8-D
I put a moritorium on bringing home toiletrries for awhile, but when one of the social workers in our office found out DH is a pilot, she asked if I could collect for her. There are a bunch of airline people in the area that do drop-offs like that. Shelters always need that kind of stuff.
I never thought of doing this. I think I'll have DH start to pick up the soaps and stuff on his overnights too.
My H with OCD is the reason for our stockpiling/hoarding. Once he finds a certain brand of something he likes, he buys it in mass quantities. He's paranoid that it will be discontinued and he won't be able to get it anymore.
Since we just moved to a new state, and we're temporarily renting in a place that it 1/3 the size of the house we sold before moving, I have noticed how much extra stuff we have.
H has 16 bottles of Pert Plus shampoo.
He has enough socks to last for at least 10 years without buying any new ones. He will only wear one certain kind of Calvin Klein socks for work, and he stocked up when he found them on clearance at TJ Maxx.
I probably never need to buy kitchen towels again, we have so many, including many brand new ones with tags still on them.
We have so many kitchen utensils it's not even funny. And kitchen appliances we don't even use. That came from when Kitchen Aid discontinued making things in the cobalt color, and my H loves Kitchen Aid in cobalt. He went through every store he could think of buying up Kitchen Aid stuff in colbalt before it was all gone.
I have several boxes full of stuff that's going to Goodwill this weekend. Some of it I will have to sneak out of the house because H wouldn't part with it if I asked him first. I bet he'll never notice it's gone, though.
I don't think I really stockpile things, but if it is a better deal to get a few of them at a time, I'll do it. But then I don't buy more until they are gone.
I shop at Costco a lot. I do buy 1 get 1 free sales. I ordered my hair stuff off of Amazon because it was cheaper than at the store, but only sold in a set of 3 (for $10, I'm pretty cheap there lol). We bought 10 lotions at VS last year when they were on sale and still have some, I haven't bought any other since but got some as a gift so I guess we're still a little excessive there.
I think stocking up is super convenient! However if I ever own 1 bottle of $30 lotion, let alone 12 of them, I'd be shocked

We also have a full bar downstairs, a ton of beer and champagne were put out as well...only 18 people at the party.
I have several bottles in the fridge deemed as cooking wine
I'm feeling a lot less abnormal now! Most of my favorite products are purchased in multiples. Costco is where my stockpile mentality came from. The worst I realized recently was my Dove Winter Care body wash. I only use that in the colder months to help with dry skin, and I bought so much at one time, this is my third winter using it... And I still have 3 bottles. Costco-sized, huge ones of course.
Liquor & accompaniments is the only odd thing I can think of. We have quite a stocked bar though usually we just drink beer & sometimes wine. It's not like I entertain all that much but I feel like it's "proper" to have a stocked bar for guests ala 1950s. Don't get me wrong, we dip into it (well not me right now) but it's definitely not necessary.
I have an unhealthy amount of cute paper plates and napkins. We only use them if we have a very large amount of people over for a special occasion but I can't resist when I find this stuff on clearance at Target, TJ Maxx, etc.
Also for those who want to donate travel sized toiletries and toothpaste, Ronald Mc Donald House appreciates them too!
I have 4 or 5 Laura Mercia Eye Kohl pencils in Brown Copper because I'm scared of it being discontinued and use it daily.
I also have 4 Suki face scrubs.
We have shelves in the garage with non-perishable foods, extra TP, etc. I also have probably 4 backup deodorants, 10 small bottles of my favorite discontinued hand lotion, and multiples of many other toiletries.
