This is my bedroom. It needs something. Ok. A lot. I cleaned the closet, organized the jewelry and donated bedding for the January challenge.
My Criteria are as follows:
*I'm open to painting but not until spring. Both H and I kind of like the clean white and can't find a decent color. I'm open to anything but purple or blue in any form.
*H will kill me dead if I curtain the windows. THe view is amazing and kind what makes the room. He asks for nothing so I will grant this request.
*Furniture rearrangements totally welcome, but it all needs to stay. I am also NOT painting it. For various reasons, it's not happening. I can possibly change the chair out for a black club chair that's already downstairs.
*The TV needs to stay on that wall. Doesn't need to be on THAT dresser however.
*I'm trying to use stuff I already have on hand. I really need to not spend too much money for awhile. I do have a lot to pull from in my decor closet, from other rooms etc. You name I probably have a form of it somewhere. I'm okay with internet printed art as long as it's not totally cheesey. I don't want an entire photo wall, but I do have some bigger frames I could use. Farm prints are out. It's been suggested, but I already have an office full of those!
Also to add, I have a ton of bedding. Solid green, Solid red, gray pintuck (but it's really cheap, so I'd accent with it), C*B Samovaari in green. (Big floral basically) and a Suzani like print. Sheets I have in plain gray, plain green Samovaari, plain gold, and a winter snowman flannel.
I think the room is mostly just missing decor. Stuff on the walls and the tall dresser. I feel like you need something more substantial above the bed. A big colorul (but not obnoxious) painting maybe. And a bigger vase with some branches on the tall dresser.
Ooh...thanks. I never really thought about decorating the tall dresser. I totally know I have to play with decor too..but I just don't know what. It's been awhile since I've had some awesome inspiration or saw something I fell in love with. I want that feeling again!
THat's a good suggestion WOP! I'll look into it! I just feel like my office is full of photos on a ledge, my FR photo wall is growing by the minute...my house is going to border on shrine..lol. But if I throw some other stuff in with it..it could be good.
Keep thinking for me. I really do like you ideas.
I do have $150.00 in Amazon cards, I am willing to use if someone can find me some great decor or art on there.
If your H is against curtains--- what about some sort of cornice boxes? Nothing fussy- just something to add a little color and interest.
I like the striped chair and how it coordinates with the green bedding, but I don't think the green and white pillows behind really jive.
I would replace the mirrors--- having two seems awkward. They also look a little high to me. I think you could reuse one or maybe both somewhere else in the room.
Can you get a second bedside table instead of the floor lamp?
Yeah, do you have any other night stands in the house you could swap/add so you have 2- one on each side? That corner with the floor lamp looks awkward.
LOL. I posted those lamps like 3 years ago and got all kinds of, "I like how it's off kilter a bit but still the same!"
My how times have changed.
I do have some bedside tables I could pull in! They're in e. students room and he's gone so I could move them no problem now. I had one there at a point...but I kept hitting it getting out of bed. This one is smaller, so it should work.
Thanks for that idea!
Laruental: Those green and white pillows behind are my bed pillows and the sheet pattern. They're not decorative or anything. I can hide those a little better..and they're not always there..it's just whatever sheets I feel like throwing on the bed.

I think you need some colorful artwork above the bed. Also agree about two nightstands even if they don't match. Can you put the lamp with the chair for a "reading corner"? I agree you need some more on top of your tall dresser. Could you put curtains if they are hung wide enough they don't ever cover the window? I think you have a lot of suggestions and I don't think your necessarily need to paint.
I'd paint the walls a pale, restful color. Maybe a green w/yellow undertones - very earthy and goes w/your bedspread & chair. I think you need window treatments too, helps soften the room. A little table next to the chair w/lamp or little table and standing lamp would make that corner look a little more intentional & finished. Have you thought about moving the bed (headboard) to the wall where the mirrored piece is? I like the look of two nightstands too, it looks balanced.
Check tag sales, craigslist, and all kinds of places for furniture. No need to spend a fortune!
Thanks girls! I'll work on the curtains and nightstands. You're all right on that for sure.
I have to get my house cleaned up and my act together and we'll see what I come up with.
Anyone have any artwork suggestions they can PIP. I'm really at a loss there. Nothing I pick out seems to be big enough for that wall. I had a huge floral picture but it's now downstairs and looks better there...I feel like everything is just off scale.
How do we feel about wallpaper? Doing the wall behind the bed might add a lot and would be affordable enough.

Yeah, I'm going to move the bed over to that wall and see..and then maybe I can do a reading corner on the wall where the bed is now. It might go with the mirrors more.
I dont' want to buy more furniture in all honesty. I have enough. I actually just got rid of a ton. And I esp. don't want to in that room. I'm saving cash for a decent bedroom set down the line..so it'll just be wasted in the meantime, kwim?

Maybe stenciled with gloss paint but I know some people don't like accent walls anymore
I wouldn't move the bed...the view from the bed is much better now than it would be from the only other wall with space. Looking into bathrooms and closets from the bed is a pet peeve of mine....and bad feng sui. ;p
Do you like those big old print advertisements for travellig in the South Pacific? The kind they used in It's a Wonderful Life? I'm trying to get a read on your style. I hear you about not buying more furniture. I think an accent wall of wall paper would be nice. If you're into the natural look, I love grasscloth wallpaper. If it's not in budget, I did a grasscloth/linen effect in my family room using cross cross glaze tecnique.
I'm too lazy to read through all the other posts, so I don't know what's been said, but I think if you really like the clean/spare look, the only thing I'd change would be the wall color. Get ready, my suggestion's pretty dramatic: cool white to a warmer white.
ILs and I were actually just talking about this over Christmas break. You know Swedish style, how it's all bleached wood and grays and cool whites and cool blues? We were all sitting around going, "They live in a frozen tundra, why would they want their interiors to feel cold as well?" The same principle applies to you, my dear Doesn't it feel cold in there to you? I wouldn't go all the way to beige, but I would go to something softer - the white stripe in your chair or pillowcases is fine. You could be dramatic and pick up the off-white of that blanket folded down

Ok ... I'm just going to toss this out there. The mirrors above the bed - too high and too close together. All I see (given the shape of your headboard) is either an unhappy face or, well ... boobs. Neither of which makes me happy. I think I'd move them to either side of the dresser with the mirror, maybe. Then I'd put something else behind the bed, lower and wider if art. If not art, maybe use the 4th curtain panel (providing you buy them in pairs) stretched around a wood frame?
I like the walls white, honestly. But I think getting some "something" up on the wall(s) would be nice, for sure. As regards curtains - don't block the view. But what if you put up a corner-style curtain rod, then used 3 panels ... one on either side of the corner windows and one in-between. None of them have to go over the edge and block the windows, at all.

but what about the bad feng shui of having the bedroom door behind them now?
Good point about being able to enjoy the view now though.

LOL at the mirrors I could see the bed on the opposite wall too (the one w/the tall dresser). It may be a bit off center and cramped though. But I love when the bed is oriented like that as you walk into a room.
I don't want to see out my bedroom door..bad karma or not. It looks right into the kitchen. I don't want to relax to that at night.
THR: I don't think it's cold in there at all really..lol. I think the rest of my house is so colorful and cheery for winter that I think it's calming to me. I work outside everyday so I'm used to cold snow and winter in general. Doesn't bother me so I don't think that way.
I'll explore paint.
And Mrs. J...LOL at the headboard visions. I never saw it until you mentioned. I can't do much about the headboard now though..but eventually. I'll see about the mirrors!
oh don't worry, dairy your karma is fine. It's just your feng shui that's a little off. But really no space is perfect so it's always a little off in one way or another. I have a giant TV at the foot of my bed which means something bad, but I forget what.

LOL. I know. I tried so hard at one point to get into the feng shui theories but I got so damned confused I gave up. Everything pretty much means something, but not at the same time and in different spaces. And it's all bad. I tried. I really did..lol.
All I think these days is, "Yep. Looks good here. Won't fall on my face that way!"
