I'm seeing child toothpaste on diapers.com... is that okay to get?
What kind do you buy?
Violet's teeth are already concerning me because the front two look a little weird. Almost like they are chipped, but they aren't. I can't describe it. i want to brush them regularly starting ASAP.
ETA I added a pic of her weird teeth below. That's weird, right?

This is the best pic I have of her teeth. I cropped it to make them bigger. They look like pointy fangs but they aren't- the other part of her tooth is just darker. It's weird. It doesn't seem normal at all. Anyone know anything about this? Her bottom teeth and other top teeth look okay.

we use fluoride toothpaste on both kids. Pedi and dentist both said ingestiny tiny amounts is fine - its when they eat the whole tube in one sitting that you have problems. Since there is no longer fluoride in our drinking water, I choose to use fluoride toothpaste.
If you are talking about the bottom teeth looking chipped, don't worry. The pointy parts or ridges on the top of them are called mamelons. Most all baby teeth even some permanent teeth have them. They help the tooth to come thru the gum during eruption. They will wear away over time. Also, you asked about the toothpaste. Always use a fluoride tooth paste. Just don't use a lot. Barely put any on the tips of the bristles. Wipe away any excess with a wash cloth when finished brushing.
There are a few "syndromes" that cause pointed, fang-like teeth. If her top fronts are pointed, which is what they appear to be, you need to point this out to your pediatrician, it could be an explanation for her delays.
Ooops, I see the discoloration is causing them to look that way. I would honestly have a pediatric dentist look at them.

those aren't her front teeth, right? maybe i'm not seeing something correctly in the photo.
adeline has one of the teeth that look like what is in that photo. hers is also pointed.
They are. It's weird. They aren't actually pointed, it's just that the other area of the tooth is so much darker that you can't really see it. They didn't look like this when they first were cutting through. I'll try to take another photo of them.

Did you take any medications while pregnant? Or has she been decently sick ever? I have heard either of those things can cause enamel issues in baby teeth. My dad had some bad sickness as an infant and it did weird stuff to his baby teeth.

I'm so jealous of her adorable teeth! We still have zero teeth. My pedi told me that a tiny bit of flouride is fine. I still don't know about that but I absolutely LOOOOVE this brand of toothpaste - I use the adult version. I am sensitive to sodium laureth sulfate and it doesn't have any and it's more natural than the others...

From the dentist:
It looks like there was a malformation in the 2 front teeth when they were formed in utero, the enamel doesn't look like it formed all the way. It looks like the bottom teeth have formed normally so hopefully it just effected the 2 front teeth and the other teeth will be fine. I would recommend that she makes an appointment with a pediatric dentist and they will be able to tell if has effected the other teeth or they will say they just have to wait for the rest of the teeth to come in to find out if the others have been effected. I doubt they will take any xays on a baby that young. Hope this helps! Let me know if you ever find out what the pediatric dentist says about them.

No prob! It's awesome having people to go to with questions like that. Once, I asked the husband if Splenda was bad for teeth. He said not at all. It turned into a convo about brushing your teeth with Splenda. He said he didn't recommend it, but it wouldn't make your teeth fall out. LOL!
Oh, the person who responded is also a mother of 2, so she understands concerns!

Oh here's more about possible treatment:
it shouldn't be painful, but it could be a little sensitive since the dentin is exposed especially when the baby has ice cream or cold drinks. They probably won't do anything for treatment unless it bothers the parents esthetically.
