Another semi-lurker here - I've posted off and on and lurked since 2006 when I found the nest looking for money related assistance after my DH passed away. I don't post often because like many other girls have said the threads are usually done by the time I get a chance to read them. I also sometimes feel like the "mom" of the group since I'm one of the older posters and am a grandmother
For those that are interested I'm a 59 year old widow (with no desire to date!), have a wonderful son & DIL and 2 beautiful grandchildren ages 6 1/2 & 3. If anyone ever has questions about what it's like to be old just ask
this is great. we like perspectives of people who are different ages and you aren't the only grandmother on here. there are at least a couple others so you aren't alone in that.

Thank you. I'm living proof that you are never too old to learn good money habits - my DH & I lived paycheque to paycheque and never had a savings account - our emergency fund was credit cards. Sadly the reason I'm solvent now is from his life insurance, I was able to pay off our considerable consumer debt, invest the rest and am also saving about 10-15% monthly plus retirement savings - this is all thanks to reading the advice given by the ladies on this board.
As a follow up: When DH and I have a decision to make, he asks me if anyone on MM has ever posted about it and what did they do?
I also don't reply some times as I get so judgy. When DH and I got married, his credit wasn't so good and he had debt to pay. If I told him what you guys suggested from TN, he would do it. We lived bare bones, so can you!
Hi all, I'm also a hardcore long term lurker! I joined The Knot in 2003, moved over to The Nest and then followed everyone else over here last year.
I am not at all shy 'in real life', but for some reason it seems that online my personality is that of a lurker!
I usually lurk on MM, ML and sometimes S&B and the Book board and PC&E. Since I live in Europe, the time difference is a killer for me, but since these boards are such a part of me, I continue to lurk here anyway....
I also lurk on some GBCN blogs, and especially love Wan's blog as well as Weezermonkey's.
Welcome and post more! I agree we could keep this board moving more at night if all you lurkers started posting! I am not able to post as much during the day as I used to, so most of my time here is at night when it's slow.
I'm also impressed that people can lurk and keep their mouths shut. I couldn't do it. I have a hard time not commenting on CNN articles and everyones' facebook posts. lol.
Just jump in and say something. There are so many posters here, no one is going to be like "who the hell are you?" (unless maybe if you say something really crazy). As times goes on and you keep posting, people will learn who you are and you'll be a part of the crowd. There are cliques everywhere - and I don't feel like I belong to one here - but even if you aren't part of an "in crowd" it still feels nice to be a part of a community.
Okay, I'll jump in too. I posted occasionally on TN, but have mostly just been lurking here. Married 2 years, 2 dogs, no kids.
I mostly read at work from my phone, since they track our internet usage on our computers, and it seems like too much work to actually post from my phone.
I lurked for yearsss before jumping in with the GCBN migration. I can't post much during the day and always felt like I got to the good threads too late (like, uh, now).
Then I grew a pair and went to a GTG and met Womet, RBP, Bncha, and MrsBAMF, who were all awesome, and decided to start posting more. Even if I'm not able to "keep up" here as much as I wish.
We do need to have another GTG soon. I totally dropped the ball on organizing the last one.

Lol I consider you a "quiet" regular!
Why thank you, it's nice to know that someone recognized me and considers me somewhat of a regular ;D

I delurked the other day, and I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the longest-time lurker! I was active on the Knot in 2006, then started lurking some on the Nest after my divorce----almost three years ago!
Another lurker finally coming out!! Why it's taken so long? I have no idea! Like some of the others, I am so not quiet or shy at all irl. I've been following MM since 07 and feel like I "know" quite a few of you. You ladies are truly awesome! Your great advice has helped us pay off a good amount of debt, boost our savings and start budgeting. All thanks to MM!! Whew! Feels good to finally get that out!! Hi to all!!

No you didn't! You did a great job getting it going and none of us helped you.
I am a semi lurker also, same issues as a lot of people. I only post at night, am very extroverted in real life but find I like to read more on here. But honestly, when I do post, I enjoy the message board much more. And I've been on the Nest/Knot/Interwebs since 2004! Let's all commit to posting more. I have two kids (5 and 7) and live in Atlanta and have met a few of the ATL ladies.
I still feel like a lurker! I tend to be a really private, introverted person, so it's hard for me to open up on a public forum. And there are so many well spoken people here, that when I do have an opinion I'd want to share, it's already been stated much more eloquently by someone else, and I don't want to only sit here and ditto everyone else! I'm trying to post more.

See y'all around!
What part of the Netherlands do you live in? I get to go to Utrecht a few times each year for work, but I think the grant that funds that project is ending.

I live, work and play in South Holland - Rotterdam, The Hague, occasionally in Amsterdam.
I guess I have proof that I do fit in here: I love Doctor Who, and I own three pairs of Clarks shoes and one pair of Dansko clogs. Is that good enough to let me stay?
I might as well delurk. I off and on lurk on a few of the boards. I'm mostly just interested in what people have to say. By the time I read things, the conversation is over or going too fast for me to keep up. I also admit I avoid conflict like crazy so if I can avoid it by just not talking, I won't respond to something. Anyways, I used to occasionally post under another name (you wouldn't know it) but decided to change it so it wasn't tied to everything else I use. I heard there was another person with a similar name (does she post here? I know she's on ML) but this wasn't taken, so sorry if anyone doesn't like it but I don't feel like changing my name again!
Anyways, I started lurking a little on TN because I'm terrible at keeping a budget, so I read some of the budget posts to get ideas. I eventually read other things and got interested enough to lurk more often. I really haven't been around long, maybe a year? Not even?
I'm 25, about to get married, no kids, 2 cats, gamer.. um what else? I shouldn't be "afraid" of posting since it's not like anyone knows who I am and it wouldn't be that easy to connect me with who I am IRL, but for some reason it's a little strange putting myself "out there". I'm weird, I know.

I found The Knot when I was a MOH in 2003. This board was on there back then (before The Nest). I'm pretty sure that I've been lurking ever since. I was intimidated by the fact that there were no unmarried women posting (and some of the anti-Dave Ramsey stuff), and I refused to sign up for an account unless I was at least engaged because it seemed kinda creepy. (I know, like lurking for 9-10 years isn't creepy.) I remember tons of stuff from here and The Bump - Invidia is the oldest situation I can clearly remember from this board, which I considered my home board. I can think of so many times that I would have liked to post something. When y'all moved over here I thought maybe I should get a user name.
