I just read a fascinating article about how Tide is being stolen at alarming rates and is being used as money on the street.
From the article: It turned out the detergent wasn’t being used as an ingredient in some new recipe for getting high, but instead to buy drugs themselves. Tide bottles have become ad hoc street currency, with a 150-ounce bottle going for either $5 cash or $10 worth of weed or crack cocaine. On certain corners, the detergent has earned a new nickname: “Liquid gold.”
The article also mentioned that laundry detergent is the item that people are most brand loyal to and that consumers would cut back almost anything else before switching from Tide.
I just buy whatever name brand is on sale. I wouldn't buy Purex or another generic brand, but I am fine with Cheer, All, Tide, etc. The fact that people were so sold on Tide was surprising to me.
Do the pods work well? I thought about trying them but was worried they wouldn't be as good as liquid. I do tend to use more liquid than recommended because I think it cleans better.
Actually, Purex Free is a really good detergent. I use it a lot.
Right now I'm using Trader Joes Free and Clear bc its cheap and lasts forever.
I love how Tide smells but it irritates all of our skin. I bought it when people swore it was the second coming for cloth diapers and it was a disaster for all. My poor DD.

I've finally switched from cheapy detergent to Tide or All. I've heard about Tide being stolen alot and some stores even taking it off the shelves, but I hadn't heard how cheap it was going for.
I just don't have space for huge bottles. I'll try it though. You know I do love anything Costco!
Oh yeah, and no need to lug giant bottles back and forth to the laundry room. I can't remember if you have w/d in unit though.
I do have a stacked W/D in my unit, but they're in a tiny closet with no space to store detergent above, on the side, etc. I buy the small bottles and keep them under my kitchen sink.
My mom uses Purex and I feel like her clothes look bad when they're still new, but maybe that is because she has well water and not because of the detergent. I just assumed it was the Purex.
We use ALL or Purex "Free & Clear" for my terrible skin. It's so sensitive.
I was once at a Target making a return and someone was complaining that the bottle of detergent she bought was filled with water. As in someone stole the detergent out and replaced the 'liquid' with water. I have no clue how it was done... but yeah. Laundry detergent thivery.
I like Tide, but it's too expensive to justify using. I have a tiny bottle of Tide Sport that I wanted to try out for my workout clothes. I don't think it made much of a difference, though they do smell nice.
I typically buy Kirkland detergent. I think it works well and it's cheap.

Oh yes when I worked retail years ago people would buy laundry detergent, shampoo, dish soap etc. take it home, dump it out, fill it with water and try to return it as "the wrong thing". Sometimes it was obvious that the liquid was too thin to be detergent, other times I'm sure it was missed. Either way we HAD to return it for them because we couldn't accuse them of being the ones to do it.
We used to only buy Tide, because that's all my parents ever bought growing up so I just sort of followed in their footsteps.
Now my dad works at Ecolab and they have a company store where he can buy things like their ultra concentrated liquid detergent. So he buys a big jug for me and it lasts a really long time. Plus he never lets me pay him back for it, so I basically get my detergent for free, which is pretty awesome.
