It really doesn't matter to me. Though, I am thinking about switching to a male gyno. I had one take a little looksie with my female gyno when I needed surgery and I found the whole thing to be a bit less painful.
I don't have a preference for anything. Hmmm. Maybe male firefighters? But that's just a fantasy thing. If my ass was in a burning building, I wouldn't care who was dragging me out.
Twice in my career I've had someone request that I not do their project. Once they asked for a man and once they asked for someone older.

I had a male nurse during a good portion of labor and all of my pushing/birth for DD1. He helped me to the bathroom afterwards. He was awesome, but DH and I had a good chuckle about me laboring in a room with nobody but two guys.
I can see where some women wouldn't be comfortable with that and would reasonably request a female nurse.

If it has to do with my health I prefer a female, but won't discount a male who comes highly recommended. In most everything else, I don't really find myself with a preference either way. I just want whoever will do the best job.
I actually prefer men for almost everything. I actually never thought about it before but I'm reading the replies of everyone else and I'm immediately thinking 'man' to each occupation.

I had my first massage yesterday by a male massage therapist. I actually checked for bruises this morning, I'm a delicate flower! Lol, he was great but even with light pressure it was too much.
I can see why normal people would prefer a male over a female.
Massage therapist is the only one that I am adamant about - male. I think I will want a female personal trainer if I get pregnant. Doctors don't matter to me.
I prefer gay male hairstylists. I know how that sounds, and I am sorry, but you have to spend a lot of time with your stylist, he needs good taste, and most really good female stylists have sticks up their ass or are too grunge for me to relate to. It just makes me feel weird having a straight guy massage my head (odd, because I'm fine with straight men massaging my body).
seriously. don't make me link to 10,000 articles and books about bias in gender perceptions in the workplace! DON'T MAKE ME!!! because i get fired up. men and women think that women are going to be a certain way in the workplace, and then a woman is damned if she is (softie emotional collaborator who doesn't get things done!) and damned if she isn't (demanding bitch!), regardless of actual outcome. not to mention that on day 1 in a new job everyone (men and women) presumes a man is competent until proven otherwise AND THE EXACT OPPOSITE about a woman. day 1--not even had time to fuck shit up yet.
Honestly, never. Although I may request a woman next time I go to the OBs office, because the OB they gave me with my last pregnancy (my old one left) was an asshole, and I feel like it is more proeminent amongst men, since they've never been there, you know?

Oh ditto this. Unfortunately, my amazing stylist I've had for the last 7 years is a woman. Ad she has a GIANT stick up her ass. I hate hate hate sitting in her chair, but I always love the results.
I miss my old gay hairstylist, but he is not in town.
