A year and a half ago we moved to a nicer area, which meant going from a new contruction house with huge walk in closets to an old house from the 1960's with teeny closets. I had nooo idea what to do with my stuff, so I just didn't deal with it. About half of my clothes got hung up into the closets, and the other half stayed in boxes. Over time, as I would dig in a box to find something specific, clothes from the boxes would get thrown on our guest bed. We've never had an overnight guest, so the pile just kept getting bigger and bigger.
Well, now all the boxes are empty, but this is our guest bed. OMG. It looks like something from one of those hoarders shows.
Just glancing at this one side of the atrocious pile, I see two cute dresses from Avenue, a cute polka dot skirt from Talbot's, and a Kate Spade handbag. I bought Futureprivo's slim hangers from the swap board and will be dealing with this mess (and I'm sure will have to buy additional hangers and organizers). I'm sure a lot of it is worn or outdated and I need to sort through and donate it, but I have a feeling I'm going to find some cute things that I've completely forgotten about.
This is also my home office for when I work from home (yes, my back faces this horrible disaster), so it will just feel better to make this room nice. Also, I think I'm going to put a full length mirror on the back of the bedroom door so I can do OOTD posts.

OK seriously when I lived in Monterey, we lived in a tiny house with NO storage or closet space! It was terrible. Our guestroom looked like this too. From that point on I learned how important closet space and storage space is! and it's the first thing we look for (well one of them) when we go to rent.

I can completely sympathize with you, as we lived like this at our place up in CT. We lived in H's grandmother's old place and it had the weirdest layout/floorplan and we had no where to put anything!
Now that we've moved into a new construction home with ample closet space, I fully appreciate every square inch of it.
I'd love to see what you end up doing with the room, and I'm super jealous you're able to work from home! Of all the jobs I've had only one let me work from home on occasion and I miss even that. I'd love to know where all these jobs are where you can work from home at least once a week or more.

That picture stresses me out!
Our condo has minimal storage space, and it drives me crazy. I can't wait to move. I'm in the process of doing a huge closet purge too, which helps, but I can't wait until we have more space!
One day we plan to add a master suite onto this house with a big walk in closet and a nice big bathroom, but that is a few years down the road. I'm hoping the slim hangers will allow me to hang more things, and then I'll need to do some plastic or wire drawers on the floor of the closet under the hanging things. My stuff is going to completely take up the master closet and the guest bedroom closet, so my poor hubby gets the closet in the basement bedroom. Ha.
Oh, and right now DH and my dad are building a big storage shed out back. It won't help with the clothing storage, but it will clear out the 4th bedroom in the basement, which is now full of boxes of Christmas decorations and other crap, and we'll finally have a playroom for our son. It's going to feel so luxurious to have another entire room to use. That said, there is still a ton of work to do. Not only does the shed need to be built and the boxes moved into it, but we need to put down new flooring, paint the walls, and replace the light fixtures in the room before it's usable. Everything in there is original to the 1960's and super ugly.

Our basement is our dumping ground. It looks like one those hoarding shows also. We have no closet space so we have to switch out clothing seansonally. Because I don't see it everyday, I don't have the motivation to organize it. I feel your pain!

Oh, girl. Skinny hangers aren't going to help you that much. I redid my closet and got maybe a foot of space...probably more like 6 inches.
You'd be better off just getting one of those racks on wheels and hanging the overflow there. Then you could wheel it in your bedroom if you do have a guest. Not a permanent solution, but I know I couldn't work with all that going on.
Not sure how your basement is setup, but maybe look into some Ikea wardrobes for off season storage?
I've just learned to have less clothes. DH and I share a walk-in and with our house being small and needing the closet space in the other bedrooms for other stuff, I just had to adjust my wardrobe instead.
I had those racks that zip shut and had some in our old garage, I put seasonal stuff in there. Our basement has two big closets so that's where most of my stuff is in this house along with 1/2 my son's closet. I have stuff peppered around all the other closets in this house too.
seriously. between the picture and the thought of all the construction/renovating going on at her house, I am having a nervous breakdown FOR GoDawgs.
Oh, the worst of it is behind us.
When we moved in to this house our son was something like five months old. We started renovating our kitchen (DIY) right away. Our fridge was in the dining room. We had no stove for a good month. We also didn't have counter tops for quite some time. And our entire house was covered in sawdust. It was awesome.
Our lovely kitchen when we bought the house
About a month into renovating
Oh, and then we started with the living room, which looked like this. Pretty, right?
Once the shed and playroom are done, we get to gut this bathroom! (All DIY).
\
just keep the pink scale. please. that is kick ass.
LOL. The scale, bunny, and weird hanging thing on the wall were the seller's lovely items. Unfortunately, they left the ugly curtains, but they are still hanging there. No point in replacing them when the bathroom is so fugly and we plan to get rid of it all.
If I see a project I have to do it like, yesterday
Me too. Our best friends had about 6 cabinet doors off in their kitchen for about 6 months because they got new doors and those random 6 didn't fit right and needed to be redrilled. It didn't bother them at all, but every time my H and I went over there it drove us up the wall. We almost just went in there and did it for them.

I WISH my husband and I were like this. We both procrastinate. Although, I will say that we have so many projects that need done with our fixer upper that it's really not possible to tackle all at once. There is no excuse for the clothes, though
