My name is Sarah. It's in my signature too. I get "Sara" all the time. People are lazy - that's my takeaway. It's too much for them to actually pay attention.
I have a name that can be spelled a bunch of different ways.. and people do. it doesn't bother me What bothers me is when my brother spells my daughters name wrong. I mean HELLO its your niece. and its spelled the correct way. He always fucks it up
"And I even say this when I am asked to spell my name. I will say, 'I as in ice cream, L as in Larry, A as in apple, N as in Nancy, A as in apple. That is five letters.'"
You really say this when someone asks how to spell your name? If you said that to me, I would add an extra L.
Yes. And that would be obnoxious if someone purposely added the letter, 'just because'. I don't say it in an obnoxious tone, I simply state it as I do the letters and word that represents that letter.

My name ends in -ie, but people often misspell it with the more common -y ending. My email address is Firstname.Lastname@email.com and my name is obviously spelled on my FB, yet people will STILL respond to me and mess it up. So annoying!

We may have the same name lol. Unless I'm missing another -ie name in my head. -y is common and so is -ey
I pronounce it: "ill-lana", but there are many ways to pronouce it. That is a whole other thread....I get it, my name is not that common, but I have heard many ways of it being pronounced, and I am like, "really?" I just side eye those 'way out there' versions, but that doesn't bother me as much, as when my name is clearly written in the email, and they f*ck it up!
My name is Sarah. My boss consistently calls me Shara.
He introduces me to colleagues and partners over email as Shara. I would let it slide, but we have a Shara on staff, and it confuses everyone. I had to say something, and yet he still does it.
Maybe I should have said S as in Silly, A as in Apple, R as in Ridiculous, A as in Apple, H as in Hilarious.

is this bitchy? I do that with my last name quite often. Doesn't help though it's still pronounced or spelled wrong 99% of the time.
I think that's pretty par for the course when you have a name with a lot of spelling variations, or one dominant spelling and some other minor aberrations.

The name I go by typically ends in -y I end it with -ee. I have only seen a few people spell it this way. It's really not that huge of a deal to have your name misspelled if there are other ways to spell it.

Agree. Gotta blame your parents for this one. Some people just suck at names. Mine is allllllways misspelled/mispronounced. Even by people with whom I've worked for 8 years. I'm used to it.
If people just look at our last name they should be able to figure out how to pronounce. Honest. We get all kinds of stuff, when we answer the phone we can always tell if it's someone we know by how they pronounced our name.
We're always amazed at how hard people make such an easy thing - if they would just look at it, break it in to 2 syllables and and then say it.
I have the easiest name. Everyone knows how to spell my name and say my name (its one of the first ones you learn to read in school). But somehow people still mess it up. It drives me nuts.

Eh, my name is always messed up. I find it funny most of the time. I had a former co-worker call me the wrong name for like 2 years, even though if she had just read a single email I sent her - she'd know what my name is. Meh, there are more important things to worry about.

Now I am trying to figure out everyone's name.
My guess for the one that ends with -y and spells it -ee, must be Amy (Aimee?). The -ie and -y names could be a ton of different things like Stephanie, Melanie or Bethany...what else could they be...?

I get called Stephanie a lot but my name is actually Stacie.
you know, i'm the queen of random bursts of anger and even i think this is intense. "an idiot who can't read"? how about "no one cares as much about your name as you do."
