So I had my wisdom teeth out two weeks ago and last week I was starting to feel like maybe there was more bone in there that needed to come out in one of the bottom sockets. By Friday it was really hurting and swollen, so I called and went in to have it checked. Dentist cut into it and said there wasn't anything in there and to come back in a week if it was still bothering me. Well, guess what just popped through the side of my gum? Bone. So now I have to go back in tomorrow and have it removed. Ugh!

It's more tooth! Or something. My boss' husband is a dentist and he says it's not uncommon to have bone spurs after having your wisdom teeth out. It's coming out the SIDE though which is freaking me out lol.
Is it the rest of the root? Can you...omg...pull it out? This actually happened to my mom when she got her wisdom teeth removed.
Omg no! I don't know exactly what it is, because I saw my teeth after he got them out and they were fully in tact. So I'm not pissed at my dentist, I'm just annoyed that its been two weeks and this crap is still hurting this bad. And now I have to do it all over again tomorrow.

I had this happen for about a year after the teeth were extracted. They came out the top of my gums though. It hurt, but after the pieces would wiggle out, I was fine until the next one came out. My oral surgeon was incredibly rough and it caused a lot of fear/anxiety where there wasn't before.

This is common with bone spurs. It's a natural occurrence and 0it does not mean that the dentist left tooth behind or anything like that. I'm sorry that it hurts, and I hope they can get the piece out quickly and easily. Sometimes when it's already worked its way through the gums you don't even need anesthetic to have it removed.

Dear god, how many were there?!
Um at least 5 over the year, if I remember correctly. I went back once and the OS was like, "Well we broke apart the tooth, that's going to happen." After that, I just kind of put up with it because I didn't want to go back and see that asshole.

Hmmm, mine came out in one piece so hopefully this is the only one.
Honestly, I promise, bone spurs are not a big deal. They are far scarier sounding than they actually are. Your gums hurt because they're inflammed (duh) but once the dentist takes it out (which will be nothing like having your wisdom teeth out. Like I said, a lot of the time we don't even have to numb patients to remove bone spurs) the relief will be pretty immediate.
It still sucks, though, and I'm still sorry you're having to deal with it.
