This debate is exactly what I mean. When I eat wheat I break out, am bloated, turn into a royal bitch and just generally feel like shit. But because I am GF, people assume that I am dieting or just following a fad. Moderation doesn't work for me. I still feel like shit. But I do not think that others can't eat it either. DH and both kids eat a normal diet just like the rest of my family. I wish I could partake in birthday cakes or actually order a sub instead of a salad sometimes. It's just not worth it to me.
My future MIL is reading it, which somewhat colors my opinion of it. She likes to diagnose herself with all sorts of thins based on these kind of books.
Can't people just like and eat things in moderation??
Why are people always so 'hill to die on' about gluten??
Please tell all the starving people in third world countries that wheat is the devil.
- There is a huge difference between surviving and thriving. Yep, feeding third world countries twinkies and ramen noodles would blot out world hunger. Most people who are sick and dying of obesity related illnesses don't have this problem. - "Moderation is key" is complete bunk when it comes to wheat / gluten intolerances or sensitivities. It's like saying a little bit of arsenic or a smidge of Drano in your food is okay. - The reason people are passionate about this is because it has changed people's lives. I have completely stopped talking to my friends and family about Paleo / Primal / a real food diet unless they ask questions. Meanwhile, it does get a little old when they continue to complain about their diabetes, PCOS, allergies, asthma, eczema, gout, migraines, arthritis, etc. while eating cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch and quinoa or whole wheat pasta for dinner. - I think I'm torn between actually trying to convince people to stop eating a grain-based diet and being selfish. In fact, sure it's a fad. Hopefully more people will become vegetarians and stop buying up all the Kerrygold and sale meat at the grocers ;-)

Nobody is debating that people with Celiac's or other severe intolerance/allergy should eat gluten. Just that for 99% of the population, it is perfectly good to eat.
Lol that the people are cutting out gluten are also the people who were buying twinkles and ramen.
People who cut out gluten have the luxury and money to do so.
Do what? Im confused by this. We eat meat, vegetables, fruits, roots and tubers and nuts/white rice/dairy in moderation. It's not luxurious or expensive but no processed food and all gluten-free.
If I could "like" something on the app, I'd like nuggets post. Good grief. Some people legitimately can't eat it but to imply that cutting out wheat will magically cure the world is ridiculous.
I think I'm going to go eat a giant panera bagel now.

LOL. Yes, the only way we can feed the hungry with wheat is twinkies and ramen. Whole wheat pasta and multigrain bread implodes outside of wealthy enclaves.
Vegetarianism did change my life. I am one of a few non-diabetics (type 2) in my family. I don't have heart problems like they do, either. My cholesterol was high AS A VEGAN. I honestly think that if I did the paleo thing at 17 instead of going veg, I'd be on a cocktail of pills like my Atkins-loving, double bacon cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce eating, yoyo-ing between obese and just overweight family. You can take your sale meat and fuck right off, thanks.
Also, Pat Robertson says if the devil in is something, you can rebuke it and you'll be fine. I'll just rebuke my whole wheat pita tonight. That makes about as much sense as you do right now.
Please explain to the class how all diseases work... A concise paragraph would be great. I'm overly excited by your reply.
So you think all ailments can be cured by eating a paleo diet?
No, no. Doesn't sound like you've drunk the kool-aid.
Or is it just PCOS, diabetes, arthritis and allergies than can be cured by eating paleo?
Please quote me where I said it cures all ailments because I'm missing it. Eating a real food diet which is primarily grain-free and totally gluten-free has cured those ailments in SOME people. If you do any research, it has been documented both scientifically and anecdotally by people's experiences.

Sounds like someone could use a burger.
The fact that you had high cholesterol as a vegan should be extremely interesting to you...How do you explain that if you were avoiding the devil meat?
I don´t think any amount of grains or wheat are good for you. I don´t think there is any place for it in a diet other then it tastes damn good.
There will always be controversy around this diet, and so be it. It may be a fad diet, but I don´t really care. It works for us so we are sticking with it.
This is your opinion, that's all. Do you view everything so black and white?
Ok, I take it all back! It's my current opinion that grains and wheat are bad for you.
But I will state for the record that you can eat whatever you want, and I really don't care.

I thought quinoa isn't a true grain. I thought it's actually in the plant family, but people use it as a substitute for things like rice.

Let's see the science on how gluten causes allergies (to something other than gluten), gout (which is usually caused by excessive meat consumption), diabetes, and arthritis, to start. In fact, pubmed isn't finding much on gluten causing anything in anyone who doesn't have celiac disease, period, so I'd love to see what you're finding.
