I am an awe of people who can cut out breads, grains, rice, pasta, dairy, anything sweet, anything that tastes good and is comforting, etc. And then I think, wow that's a really fucking sad world to live in. No thanks. It's like depriving yourself of sex. How do you always pass it up?
Yes it is important to eat as healthy and as natural and unprocessed as possible, but I am a firm believer in a balanced diet with a good amount of daily exercise.
i have been told by multiple doctors that low/no carb and/or GF (for me because of other autoimmune issues, i don't think for everyone) is best for PCOS.
Aren't a lot of people with PCOS also insulin resistant on some level? In that case, it completely makes sense that a low carb diet would be best for them.
I try to eat under 100g of carbs a day. I'm overweight, Type 2 diabetes runs in my family, and I had GD which increases my chance of developing Type 2 even more. I've lost about 25lbs since starting this last June. I haven't cut anything out entirely, but I will measure grain portions carefully, and I pretty much lost my sweet tooth after the GD experience. I think the meals I make are pretty damn tasty, even if they don't include grain. And I'm sure as hell not counting carbs if it's truly a special occasion, or if we're at a special restaurant.
[]Wait, are you telling me that I may outgrow the wheat intolerance thing? i may not have to do this forever?? i may start crying from happiness.
I'm not sure, because an allergy is a different type of a reaction than the intolerance, right? I had anaphylactic reactions. I didn't know it was possible to grow out of allergies, but my test result 5 years ago was a 5 out of 6, and now it's a 2, which is in the normal range. Apparently it is not uncommon. And I seriously wanted to hug the entire universe when they told me.
No, I mean that $12 on a loaf of GF bread that tastes like styrofoam is insane. Just don't eat bread. I am not GF because it is a fad and I have oodles of money to waste on crap like that. I just don't buy the shitty, expensive bread.
Wow. You're pretty fucking judgmental. Since you can enjoy the cheaper, regular stuff, and I can't, and don't have time to bake like it's my job, I actually pay quite a bit sometimes for bread. Because I fucking like bread.
I think you missed my point. I am gluten free and can't eat or enjoy the cheaper regular stuff. Maybe GF foods are cheaper where some of you live, but the cheapest loaf of GF bread I have ever found by me is $8.99. I am GF, not because it's a fad, but because I can't eat it. And not because I have money to waste and feel like joining the crowd.
My original post was because someone commented that people go gluten free because they think its luxurious and have money to spend on it. I don't have extra money to waste on crappy, GF bread. So I don't buy it. That was it.
