So little SIL is getting married in a few weeks, and she sent over her "day of" itinerary yesterday as per my request because I wanted to make sure I was on the same page as her as far as timing and various costs.
I see on her schedule that my other SIL is doing our make up ( I must have missed that memo) and is charging $15 a person:
-At first I was like because it seems kinda crummy to charge your sisters for makeup appilcation -Then I was like *-) well.....concealor can add up and she needs to cover her costs. -But then I went back to because she works for Mary Kay and gets that shit cheap.
What say you fine ladies, do I decline her services on principal that $15 seems kinda silly to charge family, or do I just go with it and :-#?
Yes, I do know that pro. makeup application can cost $50 and up...but this is my SIL.........
Plus, what if I end up looking like zaza gabor...maybe I shuold just stick to my plain jane look, I've mastered that, lol.

If it were an option to apply make up myself (and wouldn't make things super awkward), I'd do it. Unless she is a professional make up artist? Either way, it's weird to charge in this situation.
I would be all ^o) that she's charging for it, because I think offering to do things for the wedding is a nice gift, but I would also be all :-# because in the end, it really isn't that big of a deal, and if I made a stink about it I would end up feeling even though though SIL is the one who should be feeling weird.
$15 is not much. Maybe it is to cover the cost of something you will get to keep, like lipstick. If it is to simply compensate her for her time I do not agree with doing that for family.

She is a bridesmaid too. I guess I side eyed it because I know how her and BIL are always trying to find a way to save a buck, and sometimes it can be done in a less than tasteful manner. I love them, don't get me wrong, but this is somewhat kinda typical??

Is it makeup application for idiots? lol, I need something for beginners. I'll have to watch it tonight when I get home, thanks!!! I think the universe gave me two boys on purpose, because if I had daughters they would totally be plain janes too. Why do some girls just know how to do hair & makeup, and some don't?

This.
And I have paid to have my makeup done for being a bridesmaid before. I'm not girly and am clueless about makeup. If I'm going to be in photos I'd rather have it done!

I'm this girl too, but dojo is very wise. Some of the youtube videos really help!

I've paid too, back when I had $ before kids, haha. I was okay paying a professional....just have never been asked to pay family. shrugs

Also, I think if a bride is requiring you have your makeup done, she should either pay or allow you to decline. I paid for all my bridemaids to get their hair done at the salon, because I thought it would look nice in pictures, but I didn't think it was fair to impose along with all the other costs of a bridesmaid. Things should either be optional or provided for things like that, in my opinion. It can already cost a lot to get a dress, shoes, throw a shower, and bachelorette party!

I have no idea but I do know that I'm a former clueless-girl turned make-up-knower-hower-to-put-it-onner (sort of) thanks to YouTube. I mean I was mega clueless.
My sister had a Mary Kay consultant do our make up for her wedding and we had to pay 25 I think. All we got was a cheap little lipstick and eyeliner sample. It sounds like she's treating this as a job and not as a favor to help out for the wedding. It's possible the bride wants to make sure everyone's make up matches, which is why my sister had someone come do it.
I'd probably gently broach the subject with the bride and say, Hey, if you don't mind, I'd like to just do it myself because we're trying to watch our budget and every little thing adds up.
I charge WAY more than that for application but when it comes to family and friends.... FREE. And by friends I mean close friends. lol. I would definitely side eye her. Do your own makeup.

The makeup is totally optional, but she had just kinda gone ahead and put us all done for it as a default but said we could decline, no problem. I think I'll decline and do it myself with the help of youtube, lol. PS: Why Must Adam keep licking the area under his lips, it's been bright red for like a month, he just can't stop licking it and it shall ruin some photos I'm sure...oops.

Yeah, I haven't ever paid a non-professional to do my makeup. I think it's perfectly acceptable to bow out and do it yourself.
Are there a lot of bridesmaids?? If so maybe it's a lot of work for her to do makeup for all of them? I had our best man's girlfriend do the makeup for me and my 6 bridesmaids and she didn't even charge anyone. And we weren't even that good of friends.
I do own some, you laides would have a HUGE laugh though, it's soooo basic. I'm sure I can make due with what I have though.
Fact: Musiclover pretty much only wears blush to work......some days i'll throw mascara on if I have a lot of clients
Fact: shevacc doesn't even own any makeup. Maybe a lipstick somewhere? And I used to have crazy bright eye shadow I only wore back when I used to go clubbing...8ish years ago.
I do my own "makeup" when an occasion calls for it (and by makeup, I mean I attempt to put on lipstick). I did the same for my wedding bc I didn't want to look weird/not like myself in all the pictures. Nor be itchy/otherwise uncomfortable. I may have to check out YouTube, though, bc I feel like I'll probably want a little makeup at some point in my life as I get older.
My mom still never wears makeup so I really have no clue how to put it on. Poor G will have to learn from her friends or the YouTube of the future...
I wanted people to have their makeup done so I paid for it. They weren't required to but I wanted them to be pampered. I don't think it's cool to expect a bridesmaid to pay for their makeup. I wouldn't pay it.

This is me, minus the mom part. I went au naturel for my wedding because I wanted to look like me and I never wear any make up. My classing it up is putting on chap stick.
I just did my own makeup for my wedding, someone quoted me something like $150 to do my makeup and I was like what? but why? so I just did it myself. I prefer to control my own make up anyway as I don't like the "made up" look and I feel they'd put too much on and I'd look weird.
so yea, I'd say no thanks I'll do my own you weird freak. I mean $15?!
I think if the SIL is in the wedding that's weird. We had my cousin (shes a hairstylist) do our hair and make up for my wedding and that was her gift to us so it was free for all bridesmaids.
