I'm terrified. We were home, but asleep. It was around 2:30am, and our dog started barking like crazy. We keep him crated in our living room, and sometimes he'll do a little whine in the middle of the night if he really has to go to the bathroom. This was full on crazy bark, so H got up and went downstairs. The screen to one of our living room windows was outside on the ground, the window was wide open, and H's PS3 was gone. The TV was pulled out from the wall, but because it is bolted to the wall mount and then bolted to the wall, they weren't able to take that. It looks like Bentley's barking, and H getting up scared whoever it was off, and all they could grab was the PS3, which is right next to the window.
It was warm last night, so I left one of our six living room windows cracked open so there would be some air circulation. Apparently I don't get to do that again.
I feel so violated. Some stranger was in my house last night, while I was sleeping. This isn't going to help the anxiety I already get when H works late and I have to go to bed by myself. I always get paranoid of noises downstairs, so this is definitely not going to help.
I'm exhausted. We filed a police report. There were a few other people who are reporting the same thing happening to them.
My parents house was broken into earlier this year when my dad was out of town and my mom was at church. It was creepy, and they weren't even home. I can't imagine.

Ugh, I'm sorry. That's terrifying. I'm uncomfortable handling guns so I keep a taser by the bed, which makes me feel a little bit safer when H isn't around. I agree with looking into an alarm system.
I can only imagine how scary that must be. Thank goodness for your dog. We have a dog and I've often wondered if she would even make a peep if a stranger snuck in during the middle of the night. Which is why our alarm system makes me sleep better at night, haha.
When your H isn't home at night, can you bring your dog to bed? Then he can crate the dog when he gets home. I'm glad you are safe and nothing really important got taken.
I'm looking at alarm systems now. It just seems crazy. I live in a town (I know, I know, no where is safe!) where people leave their doors open, leave cars running when they go into a store. I was definitely in the 'it won't happen to me' camp.
I tried to make it lighthearted last night when we were talking with the police officers. I joked that I was mad because I spent hours yesterday cleaning all our windows (why do we have so many windows?!) and now there are finger smudges on the window. Then I told the cops that they could thank me when they ID the guy because of his fingerprints on my miraculous windows.
They didn't think it was very funny. I can be so awkward sometimes.

Oh my gosh! I can't even imagine that feeling. I'm so sorry.
If you aren't looking to get new windows soon, you can get window locks that allow you to open the window for ventilation, but not enough for someone to get inside.
