There are posts about it on other boards and if you go to yahoo.com, you'll see the story. 3 women held captive for 10 years were found yesterday after 1 escaped.
3 teens that were kidnapped in 2002-2004 at the ages of 19, 14, and almost 17 in Cleveland were located. One of them, Amanda Berry, escaped with the help of a neighbor and called 911. They are all safe, as is Amanda's 6 year old daughter. The owner of the house and his 2 brothers have been charged.
It's amazing these women are still alive after so long. They found a child in the house too, they have said they believe the child belongs to Amanda Berry.

That's amazing! I hope those women get the help/therapy they need and go on to live fulfilling lives. I can't even imagine how they are feeling right now.
I can't believe the 911 operator. It was like he had no idea... Or he didn't believe her or something.
I guess early on there were calls about strange activiy in the house, but nothing since 2006.
What a creepy creepy fucker. This cannot be the first time he has pulled something. You don't just jump to kidnapping. He had to start somewhere.
I agree. And the fact he used to be a school bus driver? You know more is goin gto come out... it has to.
The operator - eh... who knows how old he is, or if he lived in the area when they disappeared. It doesn't shock me that he didn't immediately know. Or even that he didn't believe her. I mean - what a CRAZY call to get.
The home owner's son, also named Ariel Castro but goes by the name Anthony, wrote a paper about the disappearance of Gina DeJesus in 2004 while he was a journalism major at Bowling Green State Univ (from an article on WKYC/Cleveland's web page). How weird is that.

That is weird.
And, ECB, I do fault the operator. I don't care where he lived when she disappeared. If someone calls and says, "my name is xxx and I was kidnapped," I am googling her. I also suspect (but don't know) that they have resources at their fingertips with the names of missing persons and the like.
He may not have believed her, but it's not his position to make that call.

Oh, don't get me wrong. While I don't fault him for not knowing who she is, I DO fault him for not taking the situation seriously- regardless of what he knows or believes. The fear was CLEAR in her voice and for him to not take her seriously is inexcusable. I wasn't clear about that. I don't like how he handled the situation at all. I'm just not surprised that he didn't know who she was.

I didn't listen to the 911 call, was he young? My first thought when I heard people's reactions to the 911 operator was that maybe he just had no idea who she was and that's why there wasn't any sense of urgency. That doesn't excuse it though.
Doglove - He sounded young to me. That's why his not knowing who she is doesn't shock me. But when I listened to the recording, I wanted to kick him for being so damn nonchalant about what I felt was obviously fear in her voice. He was pretty dismissive w/ this "talk to the police when they get there". He sounded like he didn't want to be bothered. And she was AFRAID the guy would show up before the police got there.
The 911 operator is stupid. However, I know they are trained to sound super calm and not react to what they're hearing. Maybe for him calm=dismissive. I mostly think he's a big idiot though. This reminds me of the Elizabeth Smart case from Utah a few years ago.
I also am surprised that he let her off the phone without asking how she felt about that. No 'are you in a safe place?' or anything. Just 'talk to them when they get there' with an underlying, I don't have time for this.
They just interviewed Elizabeth Smart on the news tonight to get her input.
I am amazed that they survived, and it will be very interesting to see how the media reacts in the long-term and how they do in these first few months.

Good Lord! that's beyond disturbing. How can people be so evil?? I want to go back to my bubble and pretend like everyone in the world is an inherently good person and people like this don't exist...
Amanda Berry is home. She is planning on making a statement shortly.
moolarkey- I have read that his wife left even earlier than that- in 96 maybe?? I can't believe the state wouldn't have pressed charges for those things, even if she chose not to. I guess there is no proof remaining beyond the police reports- not even medical records?
Muddled - will you post when she makes her statement? I am fascinated by this. I don't have TV though. Only the internet.
It seems like if she is already ready to make a statement and has been released from the hospital that the girls were kept (relatively) healthy. Like, they weren't starved or dehydrated. It is so crazy.
