I wish I had a dry wedding. Actually. I wish I didn't have a "real wedding" and just got married in the beach, dh and myself with a photographer, a pretty dress and cake. The rest I wish never happened.
Aww, I'm sorry. That was my wedding. Just us on the beach with a photographer, and we did it BECAUSE we didnt want to deal with the everything else. It was so much more enjoyable.
Maybe you guys could renew your vows and do it that way?!

I said no Shania Twain no matter what. No Electric Slide unless someone requested it. Because then my aunts would start the dancin'. But play it prematurely, before the beers kicked in, and it'd be a flop.

Wow, you guys would have hated my reception! Shania Twain's "From this moment on" was the song DH and I danced to. We did the Electric Slide and the Macarena.
Of course, part of that is I don't dance well without "organization" so I like those dances because I can actually do them.
What kind of music is usually played at weddings? Pop? (I've only been to 1. GASP!) DH and I aren't into like.. girly songs, and we dont really dance. We like rock? LOL. I dont think thats really wedding appropriate though??

Ours has a variety of older hits that our older guests would enjoy and then as the night went on more current dancey stuff.
Sprinkles, I want to slightly spike your raspberry lemonade (just a little!) and then take you out dancing somewhere super dancey like a fun gay bar.
We had a HUGE list of forbidden songs that the band could not play at my wedding. Any organized dance was on there lol
Same here. That list was actually significantly longer than the requested playlist, and the DJ (late night after the band left) STILL managed to play Air Supply.
But we also created three custom, themed cocktails for the "mingling" time between the service and the reception (while we had our pictures taken) and had an open bar during the reception itself, so you know where I stand on all of this wedding talk
Personally I sometimes choose to drink and I often choose not to. I enjoy a nice glass of wine, but also am happy to laugh with and at the drunk people while drinking a virgin drink. I don't think I've ever been to a "not fun" wedding? But I LOVE dancing of almost all kinds and usually will happily dance the night away, whether sober or tipsy.
I do feel like this is a situation where majority and local custom should win out to make the most people comfortable. If most people don't drink and would be uncomfortable around alcohol, then don't have it. If most people do drink, then I think whatever the couple can afford to provide, or perhaps a cash bar should be offered.
Most important to me would be the happiness comfort of as many of my guests as possible. Even if I don't drink (or am a vegetarian), if most of the rest of the guests do drink (or eat meat) and it's affordable to me, then I would provide it to make them more comfortable.

HAHA. That would definitely be a sight to see!!! I am cracking up actually thinking about myself dancing impaired. Because me dancing completely aware is .. bad. Its bad.

That's why I'm taking us to a gay bar. No one is going to look at you! It will be annoying when we have to pee in the men's bathroom but other than that we're going to have a really great night. Get your high heels ready!
Oh, and I was a bridesmaid at a dry wedding once. We (all of the bridesmaids) had personalized flasks hidden in our garter belts. It was a fantastic wedding. (No, we didn't get hammered. Yes, the bride knew - it was dry at her husband-to-be's parents' insistence, so she was totally on board.) We had a blast:)
I think we should do a before and after of us ladies without, and then with makeup. A lot of celebrities do that for magazines and I think they look so much better w/o makeup tbh. We should do our own!
ETA: my point is, I think a lot of you that say you look horrible without makeup will hear otherwise from us
When I've seen this done in magazines, the celeb is still wearing mascara and lip gloss at least. Just not heavy makeup.
Alcohol - I don't judge people who don't have alcohol at weddings, but I'm very pro-alcohol at events. We have provided alcohol at my baby shower, both kids' birthday parties(when the venue allows for it), and at the reception after my dad's funeral. (huh)
Makeup - I wear a full face to work everyday because I want to, and I hope that isn't why I still have a job. I don't think a woman has to wear makeup to look professional or put together.

Is it weird that Journey was on my MUST play list? No. Because Don't Stop Believin', ya'll.

Hah yes. All of our bachelorette parties ended at Urge and I'm so sad they closed
We didn't have dancing at our wedding. I just didn't want people doing the Funky Chicken or the Macarena at my wedding, lol.
Yeah, I specifically requested none of these to our DJ BUT people requested it. Grrrrr!
Me too. The DJ came to me and was like people are really requesting these songs. After a few glasses of champagne I didn't give a shit anymore. Woohoo!

Amen to that sister. I know I'm not the only one on this board that went to Woody's (in Philly) back in the day.

Don't Stop Believin was our first dance song. I shit you not...
Dont stop believing was the post ceremony song that we walked back up the aisle to. We had a wicked guitarist and he played it and sang it. It was AWESOME.
