Can anyone relate? I'm not having any trouble getting runs in. In fact, I have been running a pretty decent number of miles for me, but I just can't get my act together to do the prescribed runs and especially not on the right days (the all important long run is the exception to this). I have trouble doing 'quality' runs in the early morning. I also have trouble doing 'quality' runs when it is hot outside (i.e. anytime later in the day than early morning). I am also having trouble pushing myself to do uncomfortable runs.
Someone please either kick my butt and make me follow my plan or tell me that it is ok to goof off and just run a billion junk miles.
**Possibly related: We are trying to move. If it works out, then I won't end up running either race that I am signed up for anyway. I don't think this is helping my motivation. At the same time, I know I will be super bummed if I don't train properly, don't get to move, and have to slog through my races anyway.**

I hardly ever follow my training plans. I am not among the fastest of runners but I am a solid middle-of-the-pack or better runner (but I'm ok with that). I think if you really want to run well you have to run a lot and you have to run in those uncomfortable zones regularly too. My old running partner, who I used to beat 10 out of 10 times, is running a lot more than I am now and I couldn't catch her if I tried. She is no more capable than I am, she just puts in the time. So, I guess what you put in is what you get back, unfortunately!
When we were in limbo about moving last summer, I was all over the place with my training. I had so much going on, it felt so constricting for me to follow a training plans. Is there a chance that you would do a different race in your new location?
Are you going to tell us where you are considering moving?!
yeah, that possible move would throw me off too. I totally understand where you are, so much so that I'm changing my training plan because I just don't want to do some of the things I have on there.
I wish motivation was as easy to come by as the temptation to just veg on the couch.

Yes, I can relate, although I AM having trouble getting runs in. I did C25K, and then I slacked off. I'm trying to get back into it but I've been having trouble motivating myself and actually getting back on it regularly. I did go to a No Boundaries info session last night and am considering signing up to get some real world accountability, which I think is part of my problem.
I'm having trouble staying motivated too. I haven't done any speedwork since my marathon in December, and I like speedwork! It's hard when your head is all over the place. For me it has been my injury, and now our move. My mileage is about half what it was at this point last year, but it is still decent. It's more not being able to get my head in the game.
But really, the move would make it really challenging for me, too. You know what you need to do to get what you want to get, so I don't think there's anything wrong with going with the flow sometimes.

I'm moving in July and have no real races planned (except a fun 5k with the lovely kams and zoidberg), so I've been struggling to do any real training. I haven't been out for a run in a few weeks and have just done lots of walking and some cycling. At this point, I just have too much stuff to take care of to make a training plan a priority...so my workouts aren't particularly challenging, but I'm okay with that. I say find the balance that works best for you right now and go with it...
jillybean222 - Thank you for the tough love. I need it. You're absolutely right, as much as I don't like to think about it.
taratru - What jillybean said. Except that I still don't think it is fair that I have to run hard if I wake up at 5AM to run. I also don't think it is fair to have to run hard when it is 88* with 88% humidity. ::stomps feet in protest::
kams - Not NM, but it is hot like NM (104* today). It is also super dry, only 6" of rain per year - much better than the 41" we get here. H and I were talking about moving to NM the other day, not as in we had an opportunity to, but as in that is one of the place that we would consider if we could just retire now and move to wherever we wanted.
coconutbug and cinco - You both have actual moves, real excuses. I am still in the hope and pray phase.
Hmmmm...well if its AZ set your marathon goals to IMS in Feb and join taratru and me!
NM is really an underrated wonder. I grew up in CO and knew next to nothing about NM, but now I love living here. It has fabulous weather, beautiful scenery, warm people...I love it.
Back to you though!!! I can't be the one to give you tough love because I know I'd have trouble getting it done myself
jene - I don't want to say yet because I don't want to jinx myself. If it works out it will be big. Like a 7000+ mile move.
Are you moving back to India? No advice (sorry), but just do what makes you happy. If you really want to run hard and train, do it. If you don't, than it is perfectly acceptable to run "junk" miles just to keep your base and fitness level up. We've all been through up and downs so there is no judging here!
OMG another COUNTRY?! This did not dawn on me. I know how far 26 miles is but I guess I don't know how far 7000 miles is!! That would have me more than preoccupied, too!
I just wrote about a similar feeling in my blog! I think it's ok too not be motivated sometimes. Sometimes you just need to run to run.....and that is ok. You have a lot going on so cut yourself some slack. That's the attitude I am trying to have. I have found when I force things, it doesn't have the best effect.
taratru - Awesome! If gumi says its ok to slack, then we are doing alright! The only downside will be if my move doesn't work out and then I also have a sucky race. That would be a double bummer.
I know exactly what you mean! I've been pretty unmotivated too. For me it's due to weather (too hot, thus making running harder and slower) and because the Half I'm training for isn't until Sept. I've been keeping up with the training plan but feel very "meh" about it overall. I also need a swift kick in the butt. Oh and I'm still too chicken to sign up for the said Half that I'm training for!
Very curious on where this move will lead you. Good luck!!!
I'm actually getting bored. Not that I'm finding it easy (it's challenging and a bit of a mind game), but honestly, the longer I run (time wise), the more bored I get. Clearly I'll never be a long term, long distance runner.

LOL! I love you for this. You were cracking me up. I was reading your hopeful guesses of NM & AZ & thinking, "Is my geography really fucking off, because I'm pretty damn sure there's no way in hell that 7000+ miles puts her anywhere near this country."

Lol lol lol! And brit is so sweet to just paciphy me!

OOOH! I wondered if it was going to be a big one! Fingers crossed that things work out the way you want them to!
Edit: F the training plan if you are contemplating a move that big
agreed w/above. I'm 2nd guessing my training for a fall marathon as we're having to move out next week for a 3-6 month home reno (and we're just moving a few miles down the road). I'll just tell my H, "Priorities! Gotta run the miles instead of laying tile!"
OK, I'll ask the truly important question that no one here has asked. How will this potential move and new timezone affect your posting?? THESE ARE THINGS WE NEED TO BE CONSULTED ON!

Lol. It should be better than when I was in India. I would imagine that I could still participate in all of the "US morning" discussions. The evening ones, maybe not as much, but I tend to be on less in the evening anyway.
