I'm American and own a kettle, though it is not electric. I have always had one growing up, too, and my parents were not tea drinkers. I have microwaved water when a stove was not available.
Also, jek, while Kraft Singles are referred to as "American Cheese" you can get REAL American cheese that is good at the deli counter. It's not amazing or w/e but it isn't disgusting processed cheese product, either
My favourite was this one- "Basically everybody who has lived in Canada their whole lives has access to some kind of cottage near a lake, which is essentially a small, shitty house with maybe one working bathroom and lots of spiders."
I haven't read the rest of the thread but this was my favourite one too...along with the 'Chalet' one...DH has a cottage for sure, our other friend totally has a Chalet, lol

My MIL is Canadian and the ILs are cottagers, so most of this is familiar (they do 6 months US/6 months Canada). We stock up on Ketchup Chips and smarties when we go up. Ketchup chips are making their way down into the US though -- WOO HOO!
Can some Americans chime in on the kettle issue? Do you really not boil water in a kettle? I'm flabbergasted by this for some reason.
I stick a Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave for 90 seconds and its the perfect temp for me (for tea or pour over coffee). It takes at least twice as long to boil on the stove and an electric kettle takes up real estate on the counter that I can't afford to lose.
Well, I'm definitely calling Sriracha cock sauce from now on.
I boil my tea water on the stove, in a pot. I can't justify another appliance.
And what's a magic bag?
What is a magic bag?!!
These little pieces of Heaven that you put in the microwave to heat up, and then apply to anything that hurts, or is cold. You can get them in lots of shapes & sizes, and prints. They also make cold ones for the freezer. These are Canadian?
It's so interesting, a lot of it is regional. I identify with many of these things and I grew up in the Northeast US about 12 miles from the Canadian border!
I am from BC Canada and I have heard of some of these but not all.
No kettles? (I agree with janiejones, tea pots are for steeping your tea.) DH and I drink tea daily sometimes multiple times a day.
One thing that no one has mentioned is the difference in iced tea and sweet tea. Here we say iced tea for the sweet tea drink. Most of us do not drink "iced tea" (real tea cooled down) the way you do in the states. Imagine my surprise when I ordered iced tea at a restaurant last month in the states and i took a drink and it was "iced tea". (I say most of us because my grandma makes American iced tea all the time, I do not like it)
They don't sell milk in bags here anymore. I haven't seen one in like 30 years.
I have never in my life see anyone boil water in a microwave. Most people I know don't even have microwaves. That seems really gross. Radiation or whatever, lol.
Nobody ever says Chalet, and I live in the mountains. That must be an East Coast thing.
I feel like chalet is a ski-cottage kind of term. In Quebec they say it a lot.
We still have bags of milk, if we drank dairy we would use them for sure.
I do not understand this whole microwave/kettle business. I have lived in VA my whole life and I don't know anyone who boils water in the microwave. Everyone I know uses a tea kettle or just a plain pot of water on the stove.

Yes! I went to the states for the first time when I was 12 and I ordered an iced tea, took a huge sip, and I was all "the fuck?!". Took me by surprise.
I can't edit - the boil can happen in an electric kettle or one on the stove, but it needs to boil in some form. Tea made water that hasn't boiled isn't good.
