The boiling water thing FOR TEA is pissing me off way more than it should be. IT ISN'T RIGHT if you don't get a nice boil going in a kettle. A KETTLE. You all must drink really shitty tea.
lol
Yes, yes, yes! I am way more annoyed by this than I should be, but WTF, lol.
I'm waiting for @neener to come in and school us in the proper method of tea brewing.
I've heard that you should let the water reach a full boil ( iamgrace ) but then wait a little bit before pouring it into the cup so that it doesn't scald.
Isn't their some elementary school science project where plants that are watered with microwaved (then cooled) water don't grow as well, or even die? It doesn't taste right, for sure.

I agree. Tea made with microwaved water makes me feel sick just thinking about it!
LOL! So much drama over tea. I agree my Teavana and Republic of Tea flavors taste like straight up piss from my microwave water, and I LOVE IT!
I did witness my American ex BF's mom boiling her tea water in the microwave once. Oh, and she cooked some veggies in the microwave when I was over for dinner and I was all " rubber veggies wut?". Bizarre.
Strange! But that would explain why tea always tastes like crap when I order it in restaurants in the States.
That is crazy talk, eh? Sounds like a lot of work.
Umm, fill mug with water, stick in the micro for about 2 minutes and walla! water ready for tea.
I usually use a kettle but do this in a pinch if I just need my tea right now.
My kettle takes, maybe, 2 minutes to boil. It has never even crossed my mind to heat my water in the microwave. Although, I mostly just use my tassimo now.

Mmhmm. I remember a tea thread a while back and someone was like "my tea doesn't taste right, it just tastes like hot water no matter how many bags I use" and I thought that was pretty weird because I've never had tea taste like water. Well, now I know why. Lol.
For those who experience the Canadian/American differences, does the Quebec/French influence play a part?
I experience a great deal if Canadian culture through Quebec, so I guess I expect stark differences. Do you think it affects the English speaking countrymen or vice versa?
As for the kettles, I'm Irish. I grew up on a hot kettle/boiled water on the stove. And lots of tea. It's my experience, without the British influence, all American households skip the kettle. Boiling a cup of water, in the microwave, for a rare cup if tea, is perfectly acceptable. Yeah multiculturalism!
Did you know that boiling water has to do with temperature. That is all. I can understand saying that your tea is not hot enough, but to claim that boiled water from a microwave (that is the same temperature as boiled water from an electric kettle, water boiled on a pot on the stove, or in a kettle on the stove) is somehow inferior, well, I am going to think you are cuckoo!

NO BOILING METHOD SHAMING!!!
I believe the argument is that the water isn't actually boiling when microwaved, as in hasn't actually come to a boil.

When I put it in the microwave, it boils, there are actual, real bubbles. Believe me, a microwave can definitely get water to its boiling point. As I stated earlier, it takes about 2 minutes on high for approx 8oz of water. This is not rocket science people!!!!!

I never said it wasn't possible to microwave water, I do get the science behind it.
A whole lot of those (spelling, zed, kettles, saying the H in herbs) could be the difference between the US and the UK and some are french/generally european (metric, serviettes).
Looks like Canada has kept more european influences than the US.
Several of things are normal for MI, even for my location (in the middle).
Howver, for everyone saying that recycling milk jugs takes up too much space, you need to flatten down the plastic jugs before pitting them in the bin.
Remove the cap, flatten the jug, replace cap, jug stays flat. WALLA.

i travel to canada a lot for work.
aero bars are an abomination to my hole-phobe self. however, smarties are so much better than m&ms. get outta here, mars. coffee crisp bars are really good too. and i love poutine. i would move to canada for sure.
but milk in a bag weirds me out. i like it best in the glass jar from the milk man (which we actually still have here in CO, so.)
As a Canadian just back from a family trip to FL, this is spot on!
My kids thought the milk jugs were funny and a huge pain in the butt for a 6-year old to pour her own glass. Very happy to be back home with our milk bags!

Do you get Longmont Dairy? We just started it and it is AMAZING.
How is it hard to pour milk out of a jug? With your milk pitchers, does the bag not slide and flop around as you're pouring and how do you seal the milk up again so it doesn't get fridge taste?
the bag doesn't move actually, it stays in place from the weight of the milk. most people don't seal the bag from fridge taste, but there are special clips you can buy to seal it.
the whole bag thing is really common in larger families (from my experience) or families with kids. when you are going through a bag or two a day. in that case, the fridge taste thing isn't a huge factor.
we never used bags growing up and still don't. my H wants to switch to bags b/c it's cheaper, but in my head, only weirdos use bags. lol
I'm in WI so I see a lot of these but in regards to the milk bags...
DH and I now prefer the bag milk, especially the chocolate milk. It's so good!. We get them from WI's version of 7/11s - Kwik Trip. They're cheaper and with each bag, you can get a free pitcher (we just reuse ours). To keep it fresh, the pitcher has this notch cut out that, when you are done pouring, you clip the cutout corner into and it holds it sealed. We're not huge milk drinkers and have never noticed it spoiling faster than milk in jugs and like booby said, it just stays in place. I've never had it shift or fall out of the pitcher.
