I've been having some trouble deciding on nursery decor.
I want to do something that isn't gender specific. Here's the crib we ordered (also ordered a dresser in the same color):
This is close to the color of the chair we've ordered:
I have been wanting to paint the room a soft teal: Sherwin Williams Tame Teal
The bottom half of the wall is white bead board and the baseboards and trim are white.
We had a picture of a baby sea turtle framed (I love sea turtles) and yesterday found a lamp that looks like a sea urchin. When I found that, "beach theme" popped into my head and I thought white starfish decorations would be cute, too. Like this:
We live about 8 miles from the beach. Is this cheesy? I wouldn't go crazy with it, just a have a few decor items in the nursery.
If it is cheesy, I would appreciate other suggestions that would go with the color crib and chair we ordered.

Sounds really cute! I painted my powder room tame teal and we have white painted beadboard. It is an interior room with no windows and is very bright. But I absolutely love the color. It goes great with orange and gray accents that we have.
I painted a swatch in the nursery. The color is very soft in there (lots of sunlight).

I will preface this with the caveat that I slapped some green paint and a wall decal of a photo of the earth taken from space on the walls of my nursery and bought some spaceship bedding and called it a day. So take it for what it's worth: It reminds me of how beach rentals are decorated. I like the chair and paint but not the urchin and starfish. In the end, it's your vision and as long as YOU love it, that's all that matters.
I always spell it wrong, lol. I have no idea how I picked it up like that. We have to go 45 minutes in either direction to get to one. But it's worth it.
I really like the idea, but I identify it with a baby boys room more than a baby girl's room. To make it more unisex could you with a sand colored paint?
I think it's cute! It will grow with your baby, boy or girl.
Definitely check out the Christmas Tree Shops if you have one. I also saw a lot of beach stuff last night at Home Goods, or whatever that TJ Maxx home store is called.

This is what I was worried about. I thought if I just had the white sea creature decor/accents it wouldn't be so "ugh, beach rental."
The idea has grown on me, though, and I think we could pull it off without it having that feeling. I won't be putting seashells in clear lamps with sand.

I think it sounds cute. I would do a beach themed nursery in my house (if we had children) and we live in the middle of IL lol. Definitely no beaches here. I love the paint color for the walls you picked out.
I always thought if we'd have a kid, I'd do more of a beachy theme for the kiddo. Kind of an homage to 1/2 aussie-ness and our love of water.
However, I didn't really do a theme unless you count "green with some yellows" as a theme.
I love the idea, and think you can go cheese or classy, and it just depends on what you want. I say screw what Pinterest and others may or may not like, just do something that makes you happy and makes you smile when you walk in the room or sit in it. My cousin did a really sweet one for their kid that was beachy. It was very simple accents, but lovely. (they live about a 1/2 mi from the ocean in CA)
