Okay, LOL. Funny story. We are from MI. DH and I born here, never left. We went to visit SIL in Texas a few years ago (she had just moved there). We were in Texarkana I think, and went out to eat. DH ordered chicken fingers. It came with, what we now know, as gravy. We had no idea what it was at first, so DH thought it was soup. HAHA. He was eating it like soup. Kept saying it was a weird kind of thick chunky soup!!!!!! We kept noticing people were looking at us weird, but we didnt know why. Turns out most people dont drink the gravy! We found out later that Southerners eat their chicken with gravy?! So weird!!!!!!! I had never ever heard of this before
I had never heard of this before getting chicken strips at Dairy Queen. Is Dairy Queen a regional chain? Dairy Queen serves really shitty gravy with their chicken strips.
Soooooo good. Fried chicken, big fluffy waffle and lots of syrup!
I ordered chicken and waffles at The Liaison in DC and was confused when I got this. Ours is shredded chicken in gravy on top of waffles. Both are delicious.

I'm a northerner in the south so chicken and waffles was a new experience.
I grew up eating egg noodles on mashed potatoes with gravy. Pennsylvania Dutch right there for you kkfeb!
Question: What does "chicken fried" mean? Like, chicken fried steak. What is that? And how is chicken fried chicken different than fried chicken? @pcloadletter
AndyCohen pleaseeeee get down to Cafeteria in the Village and order their chicken fried steak ! Chicken fried steak is like a cubed/chopped beef steak battered and fried like fried chicken. With white black pepper gravy. Yum.
I can't have fried chicken without gravy. My grandmother made the best.

lol I am not a fan of "country" food like this at all. Please don't stone me! I love fried food like mozz sticks, onion rings, pickles, and ravioli! But I don't like fried chicken. And I hate gravy, I don't even put it on yorkshire pudding!
But @sprinkles I get what you're saying. This is what I think of as gravy:
But even thinner, more like jus. Mostly because I only make gravy from roast beef drippings. Southern gravy does kind of look like chowder, lol!

Yes! thats gravy. Thats why we had no idea what they served with DH's chicken was gravy. It was light light brown and REALLY thick. Like a glob of... slop. Ew. He said it tasted alright as he was eating it off of a spoon though, lol!
Gravy is only used on mashed potatoes and biscuits here. We do however use fry sauce on everything.....burgers, fries, tots, chicken strips, chicken nuggets and so one. I think it's an Idaho thing. McDonald's even has fry sauce packets for on the go. All it is is ketchup and mayo....kinda sounds gross, but really, it's pretty good.
I made pot roast for dinner... 10 hours in the Crock Pot. Melt in your mouth yummieness. I don't see how anyone can not like pot roast. Maybe if it isn't made properly....
