I'm a pretty picky eater too, so I can commiserate some. What do you eat? Is your SO supportive, or does it cause issues in your relationship?
It doesn't really cause issues with my DH because he isn't a very adventerous eater either. He's nowhere near as bad as me, but he understands. I basically eat like a small child - hot dogs, ham, potatoes, mac & cheese, spaghetti (no meat), chicken in most forms, corn, some soups, eggs, many fruits (apples, strawberries, grapes, etc.)
The idea of being a supertaster is self diagnosed due to my own research. I belong to a support group and most people describe identical experiences to mine. There is no diagnostic test to verify my claim, so take it for what it's worth.
Do you guys have meetings? I'm trying to picture this. Do you serve snacks at the meetings?
We have a friend who is a super picky eater. We went out to eat with him twice and I vowed never again*. Luckily he has since moved to another state so it hasn't been an issue.
I'm quite texture sensitive when it comes to certain foods, but thankfully it's never been anything that has gotten in the way of "regular" eating.
*not because he was super picky, but because he was kind of assy about his modification requests

It's an online support group for people all over the country. It's a comfort to connect with others that deal with the same embarrassment, anxiety, etc.

You honestly eat triple the amount my SIL eats - she eats short pasta with tomato sauce, cheese pizza, bread, potato chips and candy. And cornflakes.
I, too, am mad at the name. You are not a super taster. You are a sucky taster. I am sure you a delightful person, but your tastebuds can not be described as super.
However - and this is flameful, I admit, and not necessarily directed to the OP - why is it that almost all extremely picky eaters will "only" eat junky foods? I just have so much skepticism that this is "beyond their control" and not something that they didn't learn/pick up/form a habit around. Sure, I'd love to only eat pasta, pizza, and chips - THAT SOUNDS DELICIOUS - but c'mon! It's totally reasonable to not like some foods, but almost ALL of them? I will never understand, and I guess I should be thankful for that.
Back to the topic at hand - OP, what is your #1 most hated/gag-o-rama food item? ETA - my question was already asked. OP, what's something you've NEVER tried before?

This is where I'm at, too. I'm rolling me eyes at "supertaster". Nothing OP has described leads to me think supertaster, just super picky.

Yeah, I have wondered this as well. Superpicky people don't seem to like, say, broccoli.

I'm a supertaster, but there are only certain things I can't/don't eat - mainly bitter things. I thought the enhanced tastebuds affected were usually the bitter ones? How are your other ones affected?
This is me. Can you eat things like broccoli? Beer? Coffee? All are so bitter and icky to me.

Right? I mean, I get it. I would rAther have a hot dog than broccoli, and I would greatly prefer a cheeseburger to a salad. But flat out not liking ANY vegetables? I do not understand.
I know a woman who HATES everything but candy, cheese and junk food. It's all she consumes. And she's super skinny. Maybe it's because she's a tap-dancer? I should take up tap, so I can eat all the junk and have Swedish fish for dinner.

I agree with this. I am sorry if it is assy but I just don't believe that people that will only eat pizza and pasta have anything other than a bad habit. I have a friend like this and honestly going out to eat with her gives me anxiety it is miserable for everyone. She also has terrible ADD and OCD and I really wonder if it is related.
I do disagree with only eating junk food being awesome. If I don't eat a well rounded diet for even a few days I feel like shit.

My H is very picky. He has issues with texture. I have gotten him to try more things, and he likes some of them.
There are things that the texture makes him gag. He told his doctor about it and the doctor said it could have something to do with speech, I'm not sure exactly how. He said that a speech therapist might help him get over the texture issues.
Ok, if thinking about new foods makes you break out into a cold sweat, that sounds a lot more like you have food issues, not over-active taste buds. It sounds to me like you may have your cause and effect backwards. You work yourself up that much, of course you're not going to have a "man this is DELICIOUS" reaction. lol
Ha! There's a test! Also, a supertaster has to do with the amount of taste buds on your tongue and should not be a blanket term used for a picky eater or even someone who has texture issues.
I have really bad texture food issues FWIW -- mushy things are just so gross to me. I'm also not super adventurous, and I tend to order fairly bland food. Indian food flavor is WAY too intense for me, though I do like things very spicy in general. That said, I LOVE broccoli, quinoa, and lots of other healthy foods. Just don't come at me with melon, yogurt, or boiled squash.
