I remember being young and my going out to Uno's with a large portion of my family on my father's side, and my grandpa being all mad because the waiters were bringing pitchers of coke to the littles(us). The adults were having sangria. He got all huffy and said out loud to the waiters and to the parents "stop bringing that poison to the children, I'd rather them be drinking sangria!"
We were all high five grandpa!!!
But the truth is, we all had sips of wine throughout childhood. Sometimes even mini glasses.
I would also be totally mortified if one of my friends loudly called someone out FROM ANOTHER TABLE. omg. If you feel that strongly than grow a backbone and actually say something. If you don't feel strongly enough to be a grown up and say something to the other person, then obviously it isn't important enough to throw jabs her way.
Actually, I would also be embarrassed if you walked up to her and said something, but at least you're giving her a chance to respond instead of just being mean to her.
We grew up being allowed sips of our parents beer, wine, and mixed drinks. I can't imagine caring if another mother gave her child a sip of an alcoholic beverage.
Okay! Lol. I'd be fucking mortified if someone I was at lunch with decided to loudly call someone at the next table a tool. I was raised with manners though, so there's that.
And I replied and proboards ate it.
Just be thankful then that we will never have lunch together then
I was raised in a house where we did not mess around with liquor because many family members are alcoholics on both my mother and my father's side. In my opinion, teaching children that alcohol tastes good at an early age makes it sound like a fun treat and something that they are going to want to have. They still have a long way to go until they are old enough to drink it. Also, wine MIGHT be a little different because the taste is obviously off putting to a child, whereas a margarita is a tasty treat .
I am fully willing to admit I can be a bitch and my up bringing skews my judgement on this issue, but this woman's judgement also is not the best.

If she was sitting at a table next to me, it would be saying something to her directly and she would be able to respond to me....

Maybe I just need a margarita myself?
Yes IN YOUR OPINION. In someone else's opinion, making alcohol forbidden and dangerous might make it more appealing to the child who then goes crazy at the first chance.

I am not the only one that thinks this way, considering there is a law against it.
I give my kid sips of alcohol, so I'm guessing you'd also call me a tool with poor judgement.
I get that there's history there, but don't let your history with alcohol affect other people, total strangers, just because you don't agree with it.
Is it the best idea to give a kid a sip of alcohol? Probably not. But is it worthy of someone cowardly and passive-aggressively calling them names in a public place? Because I'd question the judgment of someone who did that more than I'd judge the mother.
But it's illegal to give a child alcohol, it is not illegal to state your opinions. Saying something is a lot better than calling CPS on the lady. The restaurant could also lose their liquor license. Yeah I get that maybe some people do it at home with drinks that be much less appealing to a child, but a margarita is pretty tasty to a child. You also have to be careful (not you in particular, just parents in general). Would you want your kid going to school telling their friends that they drank out of their moms margarita? Children often over exaggerate and soon the story gets out of hand and bam CPS is at your door. This is a completely different world from when we were young people...

omfg. No, it's not illegal to state your opinion, but I'd judge rudeness and calling someone names in public far more; because I don't base my entire moral compass on what's legal and what isn't.
And please with the CPS thing. Good lord. If CPS wanted to visit me because I gave KHC a sip of beer, they're welcome to; I have nothing to hide.
Please know (seriously) that I was not meaning it towards you. I mean it in general.

I assume that even though we have a difference of opinions on this matter, based on your posts in general on here, you are a a great and loving mother. I was just too lazy to create another post.
I'm not familiar with other states' laws, but parents in Louisiana can purchase alcohol for their underage children, even in restaurants. Do I see 5 year olds being served shots of vodka? No. But there is no age restriction on this law, apparently.
My dad would always order extra olives in his martini so I could have them. It wasn't until I was older that I realized they were soaked in vodka. Lol. I have no clue why he didn't. Just order me some on the side.
I also used to love using those plastic champagne glasses my parents got for parties, so I would use the leftover ones for my juice or sparkling mystics (remember those). I wonder if the neighbors thought I was sitting on the deck sipping champagne all the time.

Well, you've certainly made LHC's point here. Perhaps the tool in the restaurant is also a good and loving Mom despite that one incident? Or possibly because of it, I haven't decided yet, lol.
My brother ate a bunch of jello shots when he was 4 because he just saw jello. He's ok and not an alcoholic or brain dead. My grandmother used to let us try her mudslides. I am only a tad bit of an alcoholic.
A sip of a drink is seriously not going to kill your child. Also, if you get drunk off of a sip of Patron, you my friend are a lightweight and probably shouldn't drink.
Kind of related... I saw an advertisement for coconut tequila and I almost licked the billboard.
There is no age specification to the laws. So presumably yes.
So, I guess, call CPS if you must. lol.
Are you in 1 of the 31 states? Would you be allowed to order an entire drink for your child? This surprises me especially since the drinking age is 21 in the States and it is only 19 in Canada, yet there are many states that the kids are drinking far before they are 21.
Also, the people saying "OMG underage drinking is illegal!! Shame of you lawbreakers" make me laugh. You seriously waited until your 21st birthday to consume any alcohol? How cute.
I bet you were also the ass kissers in grade school.

What harm is actually being done by giving the child a sip of margarita? No one is saying to give the children all the alcohol. But I don't see what the big deal is here.

We didn't have to be 21, we only have to be 19 here. I probably started around 16, maybe 17. It sure as hell wasn't 5, but what's 11 or 12 years right?
