this never even occurred to me until my dr mentioned it yesterday
I've never even thought about it and I know that foods can replenish you as well but just curious as to if you drink Gatorade/g2 or other electrolyte replacement drdrinks
For me, I have to drink Powerade in the summer during runs or I end up with migraines. On long runs (10+), I've learned I need Powerade regardless of the weather conditions. It's the only way I don't end up nauseated for the rest of the day.
I use gels on long runs. Now that it's summer and I'm sweating an obscene amount, I need to get better about replacing electrolytes. I've already had a few running hangovers.
If I do a real beatdown of a workout on a hot day, I might drink a coconut water to replace electrolytes. Otherwise, I assume water and food are doing their jobs.
not always. it depends on the length of the run and how hot/humid it is.
generally if I'm out for less than an hour I'll just have some water. unless it is crazy humid. then I'll have some nuun in my water.
more than an hour in the summer and I'll have nuun/gatorade during the run. more than 90 minutes in summer I'll have some margarita shot blocks + nuun/gatorade during and after.
If I teach or take a double, I put some Propel in my water to replenish. I was getting this weird bloated feeling after an hour of work, so that helps to take that away.
It is for me because I have low blood pressure and get headaches very easily. I like V8 because it doesn't have the sugar or sometimes I just salt my veggies at dinner a whole lot to get it back.
I use a combination of Gatorade, gels, and electrolyte tablets (not to mention solid food while I'm riding). I lose a lot of salt when I sweat and if I don't replenish, I don't feel well.

Hm. I wonder if this is what is causing my migrane today. I didn't run very far this morning, but it was already in the mid 70's and 85% humidity.
I use EFS when I'm running or riding long or if it's hot. I used a bit of it at hot yoga the other day.
During my long ride the other day I had a Baggie of salt with me that I just licked my finger and dipped it in and then put it in my mouth. It helped tremendously.
I don't think you need to do it for short runs. But definitely when it's hot or when you will be out for long periods of time.
