Mr. GT and I ran a small tiny July 4th 8K this morning, neither one of us had run an 8K before, so PRs for all!!!
It was hot and muggy so my goal was to not go out too fast. Once the race started I looked at my watch and saw I was running a sub 8 pace, far off my original goal of 8:30 ish pace. So I slowed down and let people pass me and settled in for the first 5K.
The race was out and back and at the turn around it looked like some folks were not doing so well and I figured I might be able to pick a few of them off in the final couple of miles. I was doing great through mile 3, but mile 4 was tough. Luckily there was another female who kept passing me and we went back and forth for that whole mile. If she hadn't been there, who knows what pace I would have managed to run mile 4 in.
I did manage to pick off 3 females in the last 2 miles as folks started to fade.
The unofficial race results were wrong, as they had the two people I passed as 1 and 2 in my age group. So I asked about it and it turns out that I was 1st in my age group. (Results aren't chip timed) I have a feeling that those results still aren't correct, but I'll take it. I finished in 42:49 (8:39 pace).
Splits: 8:31 8:35 8:36 8:53 (ouch) 8:12
Oh yeah, Mr. GT was fourth overall and second in his age group. <)

It was my first race back since the cast in December. It was a solid race for me. It was the first time I've run 5K straight since Thanksgiving day so my goals were to run the whole thing, not go out too fast, and negative split. I managed to do all of those things so I'm trying to ignore how slow I was and focus on the fact I hit all three goals.
I ran a 6 mile race this morning, and my goal was 58:00 (9:40 pace). My actually time was 1:00:xx. I had to stop a few times to stretch a crampy calf. So while disappointing I'll take it, I'm in excellent position for my goal of a sub 2:30 half in August.
eta - I ran a negative split!! My second half was 2:08 faster than the first half. I guess I am learning not to start off too fast after all.
I ran a local 5k. I enjoyed it, and will bring the whole family next year instead of dodging out early. It was at a park, which is nice for the littles. As far as performance, I am happy. My last 5k was in October and I ran a 20:40. Today I did a 23:35. My splits were pretty even, and I think it was an all out effort on my part, despite the huge decrease in performance. It was a fun race, and nice to get out there post Achilles issues. I am already excited to improve at my next race!
Great races, girls! It's brutal racing in the summer!
Can we AW our workouts if we didn't race? My new coach is on crack with these paces. I need to feel good about this workout, & not defeated.
I had 12 miles this morning to knock my long run out of the way. My marathon pace only needs to be an 8:05-8:08 or so to meet my goal & give me a little wiggle room. Dude has me doing long runs at an 8:29 or faster. If it wasn't summer, this wouldn't be a problem, but dude, come on! I easily drop 30-45 sec from my pace in cooler weather. I cannot do this in this heat.
Anyway, it was fucking miserable, but I'm still proud of myself. I had an electrolyte issue at mile 10 which resulted in a massive headache. I settled for 11.5 miles at an 8:32 pace. For now, at this point in SUMMER training, I'm happy with that. I also did 6.5 miles w/ 3 x 1 mile (7:30's) last night, so screw it. I'm calling it a success!
Had a 5 miler this morning! And it was the first time I'd actually run 5 miles!!!
My goal was 55:00, (11:00 pace). Course was hilly as shit, but I did it in 54:05!
It was overcast but really muggy. Glad I brought my handheld full of gatorade! They ran out of water at the 2nd water stop. It started pouring rain right as I finished, so I'm glad I made it in time- my Mom, DH, and the boys were all there!
Local 5k here. Small race but so much fun. So small here's the start lol
I'm so used to Disney/iron girl races with big starts huge crowds and lots of fanfare that I always chuckle at the smaller races! This year they even added chip timing! Woot! Lol But seriously I love local races. Such fun. Great support. Great fun. The course was a great 5k loop thru a sub and part of the downtown. Loved the neighborhood support! And bonus I was someone's rabbit!!!!! Who knew! LOL she thanked me at the end and was all "i was racing and trying to pass you the whole time". Lol ummm I'm slow but that made my life! I was someone someone else was chasing!!!! Yay!!!! I wanted to break 30 but wasn't sure how my hammie would hold out later so I was conservative and came in at 30:47. Ill get it next time! :-)
My 5k went well. I didn't feel like up to running last night so I got up early and did 6, and then went to the race. Final time 26:14 for an average pace of 8:27. About 1:20 off my PR and I wouldn't have minded going a little faster, but I'm okay with it on top of 6 and I was pleased with my splits - 9:08, 8:06, and 8:00. I had forgotten how awful this race was about people stratifying properly at the start - lots of walkers up toward the front, which is always kind of annoying.
Overall, a good experience, and I got to see some of the other Houston ladies too! Hope everyone has a great holiday!

My 5k was a blast. I ran it with 9 family members - my brother, SIL, sister, BIL, and 5 nieces and nephews. DD and DS didn't want to run and DH stayed home with them. About 1,000 participants and a fairly pretty course on Nantucket. I really hadn't trained for a 5k PR and wasn't thinking of racing it but did give it a good go. Finished in 25:18 which is about 1:15 off my PR but I'll take it! Wish I had pushed myself a bit so I could have passed my 18 year old nephew but he beat me by almost a minute.
I swam 2.6 miles this morning in 1:13. I stopped a million times because I couldn't see. Tomorrow I'm going to the eyeglasses place and order some prescription goggles once and for all. If I didn't stop I could have been so much faster.
It was so fun though, DH was on a boat doing swimmer support, we had about 10 swimmers and 4 kayaks for support. It was an awesome way to start the day!!
I ran a 5k this morning with a friend, it was his very first one, so I didn't have a time goal, I stuck with him to help him finish. He wanted to finish in under 45 and we came in under 39, so he did great! It was actually kind of nice to just go with the flow and not worry about a specific time.
I did a local 5K-Yankee Doodle Dash. The rain stopped long enough for both 5K and 10K racers to finish. There were @170 runners and the course was beautiful despite the weather. I finished in 24:25...not a PR, but given the weather and humidity I'll take it! Happy 4th, everyone!

Did the Peachtree this year and didn't PR. I started a bit too fast, had trouble on one of the hills and walked some. My 10K PR is 54 minutes and today's was 57 minutes. I really don't like summer racing. And honestly, with the people weaving, not the most fun race.
I ran Peachtree. PR'd by about 6 minutes but a little dissapointed when I didn't beat my doctor (we always run this race and try to beat each other) I feel like I had to run around people a lot more this year and since it rained before the race it was so humid. Oh well I love the shirts this year and I got to meet Bart Yasso
jene - sorry for your DNF. That's tough, but hopefully you prevented any further injury by stopping. Hope you're better soon.
As for me, 5 easy, solo miles this morning. It's warming up here but still low humidity which is fabulous. I'm hoping/planning to race 10K on Saturday. We'll see if I can get away...
