You can totally stand firm WRT nickname.. we have friends with a Leonardo who is 8 now. Still Leonardo. The mum was super vigilant about correcting people who assumed Leo.
I had a cheerleader named this. She went by Victoria or Tor. Actually ive had a few in class too and they all went by full name, Tori, or Tor. No Vicki at all - I dislike that nickname.
I just have to decide if I can be tough or not when correcting people. H's family is huge on nick names. They tried to call Elias EJ because his middle name is James. NO WAY! I put a stop to that quick, but it still bothered me it was even brought up. Lol Ej, gross.

see, but you did it once! You can do it again if you love the name

I'm with you; I love Victoria but not a big fan of Vicky. I think until the kids get old enough to decide for themselves, you can make sure no one calls them by a nickname--at least in your presence.
I really like Victoria. The town where I teach loves it too as there are always 3 or 4 girls per grade. They seem to always go by Tori, which IMO is wayyyyy better than Vicky.

I like Victoria and I maybe the only one to like Vicky... but I had a great Vicky in my life as a young adult, she helped keep me out of trouble and fed me good food without a lot of condemnation.
I like Victoria, I am ok with Tori, strongly dislike Vicky
I am annoyed with the automatic inference that a name with more than two syllables MUST have a nickname. Every time we say Matilda people ask what the nickname is. I'm like her NAME is MATILDA. If we wanted her to be called something else we'd have named her that?
I'm sure she'll end up with nickname(s) as she gets older but I'm certainly not going to prematurely start calling her something different to what we named her. WTF?!
I really like it. I don't think all long names go by nicknames. My name is 3 syllables and I do not go by a nick name and never have. There is a very common abbreviation to my name but people don't really call me that either.
I think if you love it go for it. Use it as a first name.

aaaaah.
We get asked what Carter's nickname is. Umm, two syllables is too much?
I don't know whether I dislike Tori or Vicky more. I have a couple of friends names Victoria, and they go by the full name.
However, I wouldn't wed myself to that name until after the royal baby is born. If they pick that, you know there will be a huge explosion in popularity.
OK, so it makes ME think of fucking Victoria Beckham, the bitch who turned the name Harper into fair game for THE ENTIRE GODDAMN WORLD.
So I hate her.
But, apart from myself and maybe Dahli, I might be alone on this one.
Ha! Though, to be fair I've noticed an uptick in Harpers over the past five years. I think five of my Facebook friends have Harpers, and only one was born after PoshBabe.

Victoria is my name. I love my name! As far as Vicky, my mom hated that nickname and made sure I knew that! I never had any problem with anyone calling me Vicky. I do go by the nickname of Tori though because that's what my mother called me. I find myself using Victoria now that I'm getting older.
