Has anyone tried to give your child a nickname? Did you think of nicknames when you named LO? Does LO have a nickname that has "stuck"?
I specifically chose a one syllable name for Graham because I didn't want him to have the confusion of going by a nickname. Other names on our list were Samuel, Bennett, William. Those names lend themselves to shortened versions and I didn't want to have to be a nag about his name (like the Victoria/Vicky thread--that's what made me think of it). This is mainly due to me not wanting to have to be assertive or confrontational, lol.
Well, my IL's decided to start calling Graham "Graham-er" (Grammar? Gram-mer?") Joke's on me. I had to finally speak up this weekend and ask them to please just call him by his given name. That nickname was like nails on a chalkboard. I teach grammar, for heaven's sake.
Thaddeus is Thad. I thought he would be Tad but he isn't. It just never fit. We call him Thad about 50% of the time. Our friends and family call him Thad almost exclusively.
I thought Macy was short enough to not need a nickname but I find myself and most of my family calling her Mace most of the time!! I do call her Macers sometimes too

I love his name. Thad is just so cool.
(Or rad).
Aw, thanks! The reaction is pretty split. Some people go "what a cool name!" And some people say "wow, that's unique!" In a way that is obviously "that name is fug!" I don't mind. Unique and vintage were my requirements. Not everyone is going to like that.
Logan doesn't lend itself to a nickname, but my nieces and nephew call him baby Lolo because that's all the youngest (18 mo) could say last summer. DH wanted to call him LT, but that's not really gaining any traction fortunately.
Lydia really only goes by her given name but we sometimes call her Lydie bugs. Calista about 90% of the time we call her Callie. It started when I was pregnant because it was easy for L to say baby Callie. I think as she gets older it will get weaned off and call her by her full name.
For any parties or anything official I always call C by her full name.

A lot of friends and family do this for our Macy. I have only done it once or twice though.
For some reason, I usually call A by her first AND middle names. Ansley Bell. It just flows well, but was NOT intended when I named her. Her nickname is Bug. She's had a few, but Bug or Bugger has stuck. DH doesn't call her that though, just me. She answers to both.
Theodore is Theo 80% of the time. My name does not lend itself to a nickname and I always wanted one, so I made sure my child had a name that has an easy nn.
I probably call Emerson by her full name around 60% of the time. I like the nickname Emmie and sometimes Em. I've gone by a nickname my entire life so I don't really have an issue with nicknames if I like them.

I always wanted a nn option too!! DH has a common nn name but goes by his full name, so he wasn't HUGE on a nn. And she ended up with a non-nn name.

I never thought Caden would have a nickname but we call him Cae and now that he is 3 that is what he prefers and will request, as in "Hello my name is Maxwell Caden, call me Cae" (it was intentional he was called by middle name)
The baby is Rowan, with no planned nickname but wound up with Row Row and Rowie. I don't think either one will last past toddlerhood, Row Row came from DS1 and row row your boat so I think it is cute from him but not so cute from MIL.
We usually call him Alex, MIL sometimes calls him AJ, but h and I call him Buddy as well. Basically he probably isn't sure what his name is.
Aj is my H's nn. I'm not a huge fan of initial names but I can't call him anything else.
I'm not a fan of Initial names either, but h was hoping that AJ would stick since A's middle name is his first name. Only MIL and h's aunt call him AJ regularly.
Besides cute nicknames (baby bear, etc) we call her Lillian only. My mom calls her Lil and lately I have found myself calling her Lil too but it's not a lot. I always get asked if it's Lillian or Lily.
We named him Maxwell with the intention of calling him Max. He is Max 95% of the time. I do the mom-full-name thing when he is ornery: Maxwell James LastName! (I do this with my dog, too: Lola Bear LastName!). (He has a million fun nicknames, and my brother calls him Maximus, but those aren't his name-name).
