D-Why must Potter ignorers/haters always come in these threads? You don't like it? Fine. GTFO! Let me cry in my butter beer over a freaking owl in peace!
Word. It's as if all the happiness has gone from the world.
If we get anymore haters I will have no choice but to produce a Patronus on your ass. If that doesn't keep you out, there's always the Unforgivable Curses...don't make me use them.

The last 2 movies make my cry. I was pregnant when I saw the last movie in the movie theatre. I sobbed the entire way through. I was a blubbering, snotty mess, with trembling lips, and trying to catch my breath. I must have looked nuts.
WWHP is amazing. We went last November (great time to go, no wait for lines) and my 4 year old asks to go back daily. Check your credit card points, we got 2 4-day passes for free, and bought my son a 4 day pass for $140.

I'm sad I missed this thread last night. I love every comment in here. I can't even watch the last movie without choking up about 20 times. I listen to the audiobooks in my car every day. If you haven't heard them, you should. They are fantastic!
I teach 4th grade and read the first book aloud to my whole class. They love it and we have lots of great discussions.
I didn't discover HP until the 6th book came out and my then boyfriend now DH talked me into reading them when he was rereading prior to the release. I fell hard for them and haven't looked back. I can't wait to share them with DD when she's old enough to enjoy them. I also agree the deaths mentioned kill me in the movies and books.
I also agree with the consensus on Alan Rickman's sexiness.
I'm mobile posting right now but my mind is BLOWN that LOONEYLUNALOVEGOOD only got on to HP 2 years ago when the last movie came out. I figured you went wayyy back! Where were you before then? Why didn't you get into it earlier? So many questions!

I was a hardcore HP boycotter until I decided to read them on a whim last summer. Full disclosure I knew nothing about them at all except that they were about wizards/magic. I thought they were childish and geeky. False. I devoured all 7 books in 3 weeks. I'm a huge fangirl now.
I agree with everything in this thread (except jonali, lol) Sometimes I feel a little ridiculous because I love HP so much, but every time I re-read, I get gooey good feelings and find new little things to love. I want to get a HP tat, HP has helped cope with some stuff in my younger life, and I will always love it. My yearly re-read if the series still gives me goosebumps.

I'm just here to add myself to the HP nerd list. Lol. I cry every.single.time it gets to Dobby dying. I was bawling the first time I read that scene. I may even be welling up a little just thinking about it..
DD is finally old enough to be a HP nerd with me and I LOVE it! She doesn't know yet about any of the major deaths (Dumbledore, Dobby, Snape, etc.) We did just get to Sirius dying, but she didn't seem too attached to him.
We went to Universal like two years ago and I was absolutely floored by the attention to detail. A good friend of ours was part of the construction so we got to see some fly through videos before the HP park opened. DD is begging to go, but I want to wait until a) I know she'll go on all the rides and b) they finish the addition.

Haha. I <3 HP and I have no shame. Now that DD are discussing some of the themes, it's really cool to remember how deep the story line is.
Also, of you want to relive the series through the eyes of a newb, mark reads Harry potter was so great. This mark guys first series was twilight, and he was so (rightfully) brutal, so I was a little worried about what he'd say about my beloved HP...turned out, he lived it, of course, and has turned into a huge potter head, going to conventions and such.

I saw a waitress with the Deathly Hallows symbol tattooed on her arm. It was awesome.
Don't feel ridiculous, look how many of us are here that feel the same way!

I have a tendency to not jump on bandwagons. When they first came out years ago I was in high school and thought I was too cool for it and then just never picked them up. Which is weird because I'm a HUGE fantasy and scifi nerd. EVERYONE on my local told me over and over that I needed to read them and finally I gave in and I was hooked forever. I'm actually very disappointed that it took me so long because I feel like I missed out on such a big part of my generation's pop culture.
Aww self sabotage! I remember the first movie coming out with lots of hype. I think I was in HS and we were visiting my grandparents. They lived in a rural town with NOTHING to do and bro and I are big movie buffs. Since we were 10 or so we would spend the day at the movies when we visit and see 2 or 3 in a row. We saw HP1 and I was hooked. I loved having books and movies to look forward to.
OMG I'm so glad I lurked this morning! I wish I could have talked HP all night with everyone. I love HP. I loved the first two movies but when I saw the third it was so different and then I had to know what happened so I picked up the 4th book. Then I bought the 5th and read it. The last two I got at the midnight releases.
I remember reading HP7 with DH, then BF, who is also a big fan. We made his mom drive us (lol high school...but she's also a fan so she understood) so that we could read them all the way home. We basically stayed up all night and the next morning to finish them. I cried several times. He remained bravely stoic throughout, but I could tell he was getting stressed out by his breathing lol.
I have the hardbacks, but I read the paperbacks since I don't want to damage the HBs. BUT now I have the e-books, so we'll see how it is reading them. I think it will definitely be easier to carry them around on my Kindle. HP5 was a bitch to carry through the mall last year. I want the UK editions in HB. Not sure how I feel about the new covers coming out. I'll probably buy them though.
It's about time for my annual re-read. I do a movie marathon every few months or so with DH. But I love my re-reads.

I have not read books 5 or 6 (Seen the movies though!). But that was mainly because I read books 1-4 back to back because like Joenali, I was all, "Meh, I don't need to read these, blah blah blah." So when I started to read them, I effing DEVOURED them, then by the time I got to book 5 I was on a bit of an HP overload :-)
My whole family read book 7 in the hospital while my Mom was having her transplant. Whoever was sitting with her that day just picked up where they left off the time before. The book never left the hospital room, lol.
I think the part that got me the most (after Dobby dying, of course) was when all the people in the paintings cheered Harry after it was all over in book 7. With Dumbledore looking at him all proud and stuff :-)
I have been thinking it might be fun to go back and re-read them all.
My DH got me a limited edition set from the UK for my birthday a few years ago. They are bound in linen with the ribbon bookmark old books used to have. They sit on the top shelf of my bookshelf and no one is allowed to touch them. Its one of my prized possessions and I would grab them if the house caught on fire.

Lol. My plain old set that came in a little chest are my prized possessions...and they are just regular old HB ones.
I loved in orange is the new black the little Harry Potter shout out. "Don't be fucking with Harry potter"
That line right there cemented Tastee as my favorite inmate!

I can't believe I missed this thread last night! HP has been part of my life for 14 years now, and I still read all the books at least once a year. I think I cried the hardest at Snape, especially leading up to that part in the movie. I could not control it.
Also, H's birthday is the same as Harry's (squee!) so I always make him a HP inspired cake. He doesn't read HP.

I read, I read a lot. I was about to eat lunch and I didn't have anything to read so I went into my Mom's room and saw the 5th HP book. (I'm weird, when alone and eating I'd rather read anything tha watch TV) I started reading it, was shocked at how hooked I was. Mom came home and flipped, you can't just started reading the 5th book! Are you nuts?!? Must start from the beginning! I read all 5 books in a week, stayed up late (was 19) and fell in love.
Got the rest the night they came out, H was BF at the time knew I must be left alone when a new book came out or it would be ugly.
I bawled over Hedwig, ugly tears.
H took my brother to Universal and they went to Harry Potter world and I'm insanely jealous I missed out. I would totally go if this happens. H said the whole thing is awesome and now he wants to read the books and watch the movies.
You know what's infuriating? Standing in line for 2 hours, pregnant, in the summer when I can't even go on the ride but I want to see the castle so im going through with DH and SDs and hearing MULTIPLE jackasses go "oh I haven't read the books. I don't know anything about HP." and then someone from their group explains it.
Get out of line motherfucker. You don't deserve to be here!! RAAAAAAAGE.
They need to have an electronic quiz at the entrance that determines your place in line.

Hahaha. Awww. But yes, I agree. We went with BIL and SIL and neither of them had read the books. She had, however, seen the movies and is obsessed. To me, that's not the same since there is so much nuance missed in the movies, not to mention entire chunks of the story is missing. Don't get me wrong, I love the movies too, but it makes me a little indignant when someone professes to LOVE HP when they haven't even read the damn series. /rant
I agree sunshine although I won't begrudge a movie fan a spot in line. But no HP ever? Like in any form? Like a bunch of Joenalis? Gettttt oouuuuuttttt!

I was making cow sounds when Hedwig died. Jason walked through, screamed JESUS CHRIST YOU'RE WUT THREE CHAPTERS IN? and I didn't see him the rest of the day.

Oh yeah, I totally agree that this is way worse. Unforgivable. Those kind of people need to GTFO, or at least keep their mouths shut out of reverence. It's blasphemy I tell you!

Well all the men can stop trying to be best DH ever. Hers won.
