I am obsessed with finding the perfect bedding.. Unfortunately the best bedding is expensive, in my opinion.
Did you have a budget for bedding? Where did you buy from? How much did you spend, if you don't mind me asking?
I'm looking at just a quilt & crib skirt from Land of Nod, $169 (that includes 10% coupon).. This is CRAZY to me, but I LOVE it.. The baby doesn't care what's on her bed; so I'm feeling silly about spending so much money.
We will also need sheets, but I'm hoping to find solid color sheets that will match, that aren't $29/ea.

No budget but I was just more concerned with finding gender-neutral bedding. I ended up liking the Skip Hop Treetop Friends series which weren't expensive at all, but I would have spent more if I liked other sheets. I got most of the sheets as gifts but they're about $20-$25 each.
I say splurge on whatever you like. I think it's fine for each of us to have a different opinion on what is splurge-worthy.

All the cute blankets and bumpers arent allowed anyway, so I just got a nice mobile and crib skirt from PBK (about $100 total prob) and a bunch of plain sheets from BRU. My splurge was my fabulous glider!
We are skipping the crib bedding set this time around. We never used the quilt for DS so I can't justify it now. I'm just doing sheets (obvi!) and a mesh bumper.
My splurge was $150 gray and white chevron blackout curtains from PBK. Definitely took some serious combining for DH but he finally caved. Worth every penny to me!!
We didn't do a bedding set, since you can't really use the bumper, blankets, pillows, etc. when the kid is actually sleeping in the crib. We bought a few fitted sheets in colors that coordinated with the nursery (less than $10/each). I picked out fabric for a crib skirt, and my mom made that, I think it was less than $15. That's pretty much it. My mom did make him a quilt/throw pillow/crib skirt set, I bought the fabric for it, and think I spent around $80. We'll use that set when we convert to a toddler bed, or when he's old enough to actually sleep under a blanket - it's gorgeous!

We didn't do a set becAuse I don't want to pay for blankets and bumpers ill probably never use. Anyway, I wanted mint sheets so I searched "mint crib sheet" on amazon and found some for $8. They are jersey and pretty soft. I just wanted a plain white crib skirt and also found that on amazon for around $20. I'll idea breathable bumper later, but haven't put it up yet.
Having been through all this before, I know that a bedding set is useless except for the pretty factor so I just bought a bunch of Carter's crib sheets off of Amazon for like $10 a piece.

I bought a Pottery Barn Kids crib set, which I kind of regret. Nothing else can be in the crib once the baby is in there anyway. Even the expensive PBK fitted sheet wasn't on the mattress that often since I was constantly changing the sheets. All I really needed was a bed skirt and a few cheap fitted sheets. I'd spend more on other decor items for the room other than bedding.
The crib was cute to look at for the few months before the baby was in there though

One thing you could do is hang the quilt on the wall as decoration. We did that, but its an old heirloom quilt, not a baby quilt. Anyway it is too fragile to use all the time so I'm glad we found some way to use it.
I just attached an ikea curtain rod to the wall, but they make special quilt hangers.

We just do crib skirts and sheets. No bumpers or quilts because they don't really get used. We'll probably go right from a crib to a full bed so its not even like the quilt with be used them.
But I'm a PBK addict so basically everything I buy is expensive so the price you posted doesn't bother me. My DH doesn't even argue anymore haha

I was lusting after these curtains yesterday! Good choice :Y:
I know you love all things beach related. The practical side of me is saying don't do it, haha. But I do like that set......
Yes. This is my major hang up. I found a really cute sheet from PBK, but they don't sell it anymore. I can only find it on ebay for $70.. and DH is NOT allowing that, haha.
I talked to DH again after reading some of the replies, and I'm definitely rethinking.. OMG be responsible. what a pain in the ass.

I'm definitely not buying a bumper - my main thing was that quilt, i freakin' love it. BUT, as everyone has said, it's not really practical, but I love it so much.. The sheets are nothing special; so I don't have to have those.
I figure the kid is going to poop, pee and throw up on everything, so cheap is the way to go.
If it's something quality, I disagree. I have a quilt from when I was a baby, and it's still super special. I think it's nice to have some things last.
I do agree that it's crazy to spend lots on sheets.
Sorry, I was referencing the sheets, since you cannot really put the quilt in the crib.

I'm with you on the quilt- My Mom just gave me a quilt she made for me before I was born.

also agree on the sheets - I'm still searching.
That too. People will give you a tons of blankets. The one that ended up on "display" (e.g. draped over the glider ) was actually a quilt my mom made for the baby. The PBK one went in the closet.
Well, what will save you money is that a quilt is 100% unnecessary.
Just get a crib sheet and skirt. Can you sew? Crib skirts are insanely easy to make.
Pottery Barn has cute stuff and it's not expensive, have you looked there? My sheets were $19 and organic. Considering cheapo target sheets are $10, I think it's a good deal.

Looks like you''re already set to go, but I just wanted to say I ordered babywine's bedding from Land of Nod (crib sheets, skirt, quilt, and changer cover) and I LOVE THEM. Love. Have gotten many compliments, the quality is very good, and it suits my style and the style of my home perfectly. Worth it to me!

No one gave me blankets. Oh well, wait that's a lie, BBF's grandma knitted me a beautiful baby blanket which I adore. But besides that I had to go out and buy/exchange for all the blankets I felt I needed.
Just throwing that out there to say that I wouldn't count on other people to think logically necessarily; I was very very surprised at my shower with the impracticality of most of the gifts. If you see a blanket you have to have, I'd just get it. You can always return it if you end up getting more blankets than you can handle.
I am using my cc points to buy a $100 PBK gc and buy the sheets, skirt and breathable bumper. You don't need a quilt esp for that price. My MIL is knitting us a blanket already too.

I can't sew to save my life. DH asked me to fix a button on his shorts - I just looked at him and laughed.

I decided to wait on the quilt. I'm the most indecisive person ever - I'm getting to the point where I don't want to make another decision about anything. This exact thing happened when we were building our house - epic meltdown in Lowes while trying to pick out a stupid sink.
I ordered this crib skirt off of Etsy; and some basic sheets off of amazon. done & done. Now I can move on. THANK YOU for all your input.

I used our chase card points to get a buy buy baby gift card - I'm planning on buying one of the stroller adapters we need from there.

I had a crib skirt and sheet custom made for DD's nursery with fabrics I chose. I believe it was around $175 for the two pieces. While I still love it ... she's 2 and already in a big-girl bed, so I suppose it was a pricey investment for such a short period. On the other hand, it was super cute and brought the room together, so I don't regret it.
For this one, I got the bedding from PBK. I believe the crib skirt was $59 and two sheets were $19 each, and I had a 15% off code for the entire purchase. So, much cheaper.
We don't do bumpers, and bedding is a lot cheaper without them.
