And gained three pounds. I've been sooooo good. Please tell me weight training makes you gain when you first start. I just want to cry and throw in the towel.

I fucking hate the scale. It ruins or makes my day. Throw it out, don't let it get you crazy. Yes, I know I am a hypocrite. How are your clothes fitting?

It made me gain. My trainer, when I had one, said muscle weighs more than fat and since you're building muscle with weights you will gain at first, or something like that. He used a tape measure every few weeks to keep track of progress and rarely weighed me.
That's all that matters!! Seriously. I weigh 155 lbs and am smaller and more toned than I was at 145. The scale is not an indicator of health, fitness or size.
It does! I swear I always go up 3-5 pounds when I first start lifting weights again, and it can persist for a couple of weeks. It's the extra water your muscles hold on to when you start exercising them. You could try cutting down on carbohydrates (which also cause water retention) if you want to counteract it, or just give it some time. Just don't give up!!
Come on now, don't let the numbers on that scale weigh on your mind! ;-)
Seriously, don't worry about the scale, it doesn't know what you are doing or how hard you are working. You and your body know, and how you feel is most important. You said your clothes are looser, go by that and how you're feeling overall. You're doing great! You smokin' hot hottie you.
I mean, you don't even look AT ALL overweight in your sig. Actually, you look like a little boy. Sorry.
lol! Thanks. I am overweight by now 12 lbs. I just want to be a healthy weight, not skinny, just not overweight. I feel like as I age I'm taking one step forward and two steps back with this.
I posted almost this exact same thing about three weeks ago. Had worked my ass off for a month and I'd gained weight. Well, another 3 weeks/month or so has gone by, I'm now down 12 pounds. Strangely enough, nothing's fitting any better. I'd almost rather be fitting into smaller clothes than losing numbers on a scale, but I'll take what I can get. About the time I gained, I had started incorporating strength training, so I'll go ahead and say yes, strength training can make you gain! We are friends on MFP, and your calorie burns are insane, so I wouldn't worry too much. You are way too dedicated and burning hella calories (yes, I know, welcome to 1996 and "hella") to worry about a few pounds
