My friends are planning on going this weekend (over Labor Day), and wanted to know what they can do/sightsee as well as restaurant recommendations (and hotel recs).
They are in their early-mid 30s, and open to going out to the bars one night, and doing something fun another night.
We liked Merchants downtown. Also if they have a rental car I would recommend checking out the Loveless Cafe. I think it was near Belle Mead Plantation. We also loved the Country Music Hall of Fame (even though I'm not a big country fan). There wasn't a lot to do downtown - pretty much everything involves driving.
It may be hard to get reservations at this point but here are my recommendation
Etch Rolf & Daughters Lockland Table Husk The Pharmacy (best hamburgers) Princes Chicken (sketchy neighborhood but amazing hot chicken) If you are there Friday for lunch Arnold's (it's a meat & three)
Mason in the Lowes hotel is supposed to be good too (we haven't tried it yet). You can't really go wrong with Midtown, Sunset, Merchants either solid choices too.
I would suggest driving out to the Hermitage (Pres. Jackson's estate) or Franklin (site of the bloodiest civil war battle with cute downtown). If you go to Franklin, Pucketts is good for lunch as is Meridees. Grays, Cow & Cork & Red Pony are all good in Franklin.
I'd also suggest at least walking the the Opryland Hotel.
