Secondly, it's going to be a transportation theme because he is OBSESSED with cars, trucks, trains, boats, etc. Should I make them out of that sort of material or just random?
Please make one for me too. I'm sure they'll allow me to have this in the loony bin after I get committed for going crazy about this fucking furlough/shutdown.
C was given one for her bday and she loves it. In fact, I took another pic today of her playing w it to send the gift giver. I had saved pics of these holders for eons hoping to sew some but I never would get around to it so I'm thrilled they gave her one. Go figure, it was from my friend from college art classes.
Anyway. Awesome idea.
Do you have a pattern or will you just make it up? If you have a pattern. I would love a copy or source in case I ever get in gear to make some!
She loves carrying it like a purse, too.
Oh! I wonder if there are still any back to school deals for cheap crayons!!

you could find little car buttons and sew it to the outside of the velcro closure to make a faux button closure if you want to tie it in to the theme. as long as you don't think that's a choking hazard. (<-- not a mom)
For Freddie's birthday party favors. Â And if your kid was coming to his party, would you like this or not?
ill take one with purple owl fabric please.
They're awesome favors!
C has a striped one w owls inside. She's so on trend.
J- if you want theme and see a fabric you like, maybe the outside could be some basic primary patten (something that won't require finicky matching) and then the inside a theme fabric. The one she has has a purse handle on one side. That may be more trouble than it's worth but she does love to carry it.
I like Janies idea- do one then you can work out the kinks and assembly line it. Mr Jermys can get in on the iron action
I would try w a cheap unlined sketchbook though as opposed to a lined pad for their age but in sure you were on that.
Yes to unlined paper! We got a notebook with lined paper for Edith to scribble in when she was two and she refused to use it. She has always liked unlined paper for her art. That is a great idea about doing the transportation themed cloth inside. I'm going to have to go to JoAnn's tomorrow while E is at school and check out some fabric. If I hate all the transportation fabric, I'll do random cute stuff!
My MIL made these for my kids, but she made the slots wider to hold their Matchboxes. They love it and I throw it in my bag for restaurants, church, etc.
I don't have kids, but I love it! I would do solid primary colors for the outsides, and different transportation fabric for the insides. I like the idea of a cute button on the outside flap, too.

That is really cute, and I bet little ones would love it ... but it seems over-the-top to me for a party favor. It's more like an actual birthday gift. But they do look pretty straightforward to make, so I'd say definitely doable. That said, where the image has striped fabric on the inside I'd probably use some kind of random, colorful print (like a calico or something) to better hide the crayon markings that are sure to collect there.
