apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!
"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
When I heard, I was all "WTF? Cats are supposed to be low maintenance." If they sold the same brand at Costco, I might be able to swing it but I keep forgetting to buy anything.
The smell makes me want to vomit, but I know their health is what it's about.

We use Purina One Urinary Cat Health. My oldest used to have a lot of UTI's, but no more. She's always been a puker, no matter what she eats. It's like she's bulemic or something. I used to use Meow Mix- but there are so may dyes in that food, it was hard to get the puke stains out of the carpet!
They are on prescription food for urinary issues (yay!)
Before that, I fed them Iams.
Same here, it makes my wallet sad. The dog got into some of the prescription wet food once and I swear it's the only time H looked like he was about to punt Ducky across the room.
Try the dry food from Drs Foster & Smith. It's great for cats and they hold a lot of sales, so it's not insanely expensive (as far as dry food goes). Our cat loves it.
Alternatively, Authority (petsmart name brand) is pretty good, middle of the ground food and is relatively inexpensive.
A lot of vet nutrition info is sponsored by Science Diet so it's pretty biased. Cats are obligate carnivores so the grain is really bad for them. Apparently they also need canned food. I haven't gotten there yet.
We just added wet food because one of our cats was dehydrated and kept going to, but not using, the litter box. We do half and half now, because dry is supposed to be better for their teeth.
we do Wellness for both-- probably not cheaper than Blue Buffalo, but we have more cats than friends, so we can use our going out drinking money to support them in style.
Of course, we've been pooh poohed for not feeding raw food or the fresh stuff that has to be kept cold. Kill that noise, I am not filling my fridge with fresh meat for my cats.
we used to do Science Diet, and our cats were fine, but a little portly.

mine eats royal canin and he loves it.. nutro and natrual balance is also a great brand for a cheaper price.. also don't forget coupons, some of them have those! not to stir the pot, but i also had very bad experience with the science food.
Simply Nourish it's a Petsmart knockoff of blue buffalo right next to it on the shelf. Our kitty likes both flavors they have. We use the dry for lunch.
We budget a lot of money towards cat food like $70 a month. Wet food is a must for us and our Persian doesn't have explosive poops anymore now that he is off Friskies wet. I enjoy not being awoken at 5:30am to a stinky cat and an emergency bath. He's good with baths but trying to do it while sleepy is hard!
I don't get what's to "stomach" about canned cat food.
The smell makes me want to throw up.
And some look absolutely revolting.
That said, DH used to feed his cat both wet and dry - at 15, she started to have kidney issues, so she only got wet food. The vet told him that cats should only have wet, and not dry food. Not sure if that's true, but apparently if we get a DOG, he wants to buy it wet food too. Gross.

Iams. We have an 18yo and two 13yos, never had any health issues. No wet food, because apparantly it can be bad for their teeth (according to what my H said the vets have told him in the past).
We give the older one active mature, and the others the weight control since they're both very sedentary.

I give Solid Gold Indigo Moon (sold at Petco). I tried Welless, Newman's Own, Felidae, Fromm and one other one and he wouldn't touch them.
winecat -- why wet? My cat WILL NOT eat wet food and I have tried every brand and every texture. He drinks a lot of water it seems so maybe he is OK with no wet food?
We are in the process of switching brands right now and we are starting to feed her Kirkland weightmagement which came vet recommended as good food and it is not that expensive.
Our dog also eats Kirkland brand and it is 4/5 stars. (Not sure what the cat food is rated at though.)
