My bff put a GIGANTIC tree up in her GIGANTIC foyer. It was such a pain in the ass to assemble that they never bothered to take it down. It's been up for over 10 years. Year round. She decorates it for every holiday.
When there is no holiday she decorates it in A&M ornaments because she's an obsessed Aggie.
I'm not putting up a tree this year. My hoa made a rule saying no live Christmas trees and I refuse to buy a fake one full price so I am buying my fake tree once they are on clearance.
I find this so much more offensive than anything else in this post. No one tells me what to do in my own home. This is why I refuse to live anywhere with a HOA.
I'm setting my tree up mid November (after our Remembrance Day). Thanksgiving was earlier this month so Christmas is the next holiday after Remembrance Day!
I do agree that holidays shouldn't be rushed but we take our tree down the 26th or 27th so I figure it evens out.
Last year I put up my tree and decorations the first weekend in November. I was due Nov 24 and wanted to be prepared. I spent early labor on Nov 16 in a rocking chair with the lights off in front of my twinkly Christmas tree with all the lit garland around. It was perfect.
I think this year I'll do it right after DSs birthday. Im doing a pirate themed birthday so it kind of goes with the fall/Halloween stuff.
I can't remember the last time I waited until T-Day to put it up.
This is furthering my belief that HOS are fucking stupid and are little but busybodies trying to control each other. Changing the external decor? The horror!

WTF? How can you HOA have any say over what you put INSIDE your house?
ETA: Okay, I see you sort of answered this. But if they can't see your tree from the outside, I really dont understand.
I love Christmas, but if I put my tree up too early I get sick of it.
what?? I mourn my living room when it's treeless. I LOVE sitting in the glow of the lights. It never fails that for a few days after we take the tree down, I contemplate being 19 year old college student again and putting up christmas lights all over the living room.
I was walking down the street last night on my way to meet up with H for some Halloween festivities and there were retail workers in the store windows putting up Christmas decorations. Apparently Halloween is now synonymous with Here-Comes-Christmas.

It just gets annoying cleaning around the decorations and everything. I am neurotic about cleaning though.
The weirdest thing in this post is definitely the HOA not permitting real trees in homes. How will they even enforce that? Are they going to come into your home and tell you to take it down? lol. OMG. That's ridiculous. I'm so glad our HOA is laid back.
Thanksgiving is SO late, usually I put ours up on T-Day. With it being late, I'm thinking I might put it up around the 15th. TWO WEEKS!!!!
I *might* get a real tree. I think it would be fun for Emily! I've never had one!
ETA: if we get a real tree, it will go up later than the 15th. Maybe the 25th so it doesn't die/wilt everywhere. I have a habit of not watering things...
Sorry I just don't get it. I don't believe that between now and Dec 25th you have no time to put up your tree. Whats the rush for the love of all that is holy???
WRONG WRONG. Xmas Eve to NYDay. Period. End of replies.
I'd love to tell you that you're right, but then I'd be wrong.
Ya sorry Sue Sue. It doesn't feel right to say you are wrong... but I agree. In our house the tree goes up in Dec. Usually the second week. Then we take it down after the epiphany in Jan. Which I think is about the 8th? I can't recall

The only risk I can see is if they see you bringing in the tree or removing it. Which is a townhouse complex is highly possible. It would have to be a covert operation. Perhaps a midnight tree run, then pull straight in to the garage.
Then I would also have to keep the president out of my house which is tough since she keeps bringing her baby over to play.
Just tell her it is a really good fake tree
Do they allow menorahs? or candles? I mean clearly those are bigger fire risks!
We put ours up the weekend after Thanksgiving and leave it until the Epiphany (unless we get a dud and it dies early, which only happened one year) but this year I think we're getting started the weekend before Thanksgiving. It feels unnatural, but I'm due two weeks after T-Day and would rather have it out of the way if I have her early.
