I'm doing 3 today, swimming tomorrow, and 3 Thurs I think.
Do you all think getting to the start is going to be that horrific? What time are people arriving? I am supposed to be coming in from 50 mins away, did not make reservations in center city because I was not expecting a 5am arrival. Ridic. Not planning to bag check.
I am not getting there at 5 - that is way to f'ing early - I'm not going to stand in the corral for 2hours My hotel is a mile away - hoping to get there around 6.

I ran Philly last year. We parked over on the Drexel University campus and walked over, so it was a bit of a walk (maybe 1/2 mile?) and I think I got there around 5:30 or 6. I didn't think it was all that much of a zoo. Line for the port potty of course but got into my corral easily when it was time. I started to get pretty cold by then too but it sounds like the weather is going to be a little warmer this year.

I am doing compression shorts, a tank top and cut off socks for arm warmers. Will do throwaway pants and a fleece before. I know if i wear anything more for the race i will get hot. I always get too hot.
i be typing from me phone. typos and grammer dont count.

Thanks.
Calvin is driving me and planning to drop me off as close as possible, then using the time while I'm going through security to find somewhere to park. So I'm thinking 6ish or a little before should be fine.
Also, the tube sock arm warmer idea is sounding better and better.
So am i nuts for actually thinking of getting there at 5? I am nuts, but ill be the only one, huh? Lol
So looking at the weather, im rethinking things. I might not do a throwaway shirt and instead do tube socks as arm sleeves. And a tank amd capris.
We got there super early last year, maybe 5:30, parked and had so much time. We just sat on a bench and chilled for about 30 minutes. Last year we drove in from the burbs, but Mr. GT's parents moved, so we don't have a free place to stay this year.
I'm actually planning to check a bag because I will have an hourish to wait till Mr. GT is done and I plan on throwing away the gear I wear to the starting line, but then again if the temp is 63 I might not need pants post race.
gt7301b thanks! Dont you think with security it might be different this year? I dont know, im overlyyyy anxious about that, i guess. Are there easy places to meet up with people after? Mr.al320 isnt running it.

I guess the security could take forever and I certainly don't want to be the one who tells you to show up late and you miss the start of the marathon.
Chicago had security lines getting into the start, but they went very quickly. It might have been because we got there early, but we went right through. If you didn't have a bag to check, you just had to have your bib visible and you got in. The bag people had to go through another line. Your bag was examined, but it didn't take long.
I will probably be there by 5/5:15 since I am taking a bus in with my son's running club but I don't plan to check anything. I think I am in purple but may try to move up one at the expo now that I have proof of time from this weekend's past race, does it really even matter though? I have no clue what I am wearing yet, right now all I can think about is brrrrrrrrrr
security was quick and easy at chicago. we got to grant park about an hour before the first gun and walked right through security. there wasn't even a line. there was a small line for the people who had bags. no metal detectors or wanding or anything. it's security theater more than anything.
are there multiple secure entrances? if so, I think it will be fine. in chicago there were several entrances along MI ave so it wasn't like there were 40K people going through one entrance.
