Besides sleeping? I mean, we do 5 minutes or so of tummy time, but for the rest of the day he just snoozes. I guess we should be counting our blessings, because he sleeps well and doesn't cry unless he is hungry or needs to be changed (knock on wood knock on wood).
If he starts to wake up in the next couple of weeks, I am just not sure what I should be doing with him besides talking/singing to him.
I swear I've read parenting books and websites, but nothing really can prepare you for actually being a parent. I seriously have no clue.
I know for a fact I didn't do tummy time with either of my kids at that age. Four weeks is mostly still just survival mode, and it sounds like you're doing great.
apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!
"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
Everyone answered already. How are you doing lady?
Not too shabby. The middle of the night feedings are hard, but otherwise I think things are good.
He goes in for his one month check up on Wednesday, and I go to my doc on Friday (where I hope they finally reimbursement for the $450 office visit back in August).
He is still a little peanut at 5 lbs 12 oz, but he is steadily gaining!
I was in zombie mode still at a month so I didn't do much. When he was awake I remember just singing songs and talking to him. Focusing on eye contact.

I know, I know...stupid question! I am sure I will ask a zillion more before I just give up and go with the flow (that's assuming I actually get to this part!).
Isn't this the 33 weeker, or am I confusing you with someone else? I would say most 1 month olds are doing nothing (as PPs said) but it's doubly true for a preemie, who is really just trying to still reach "term" so to speak.
Anyway -- you are good! You've got this. Nothing to worry about.

Yes he was born at 33 weeks. Here he is sporting his Peruvian llama shawl (it shows you how tiny he is).
Nothing. Out culture is so out of control. If anything, make time for walks outside. Do you have one of those baby wearig contraptions? Those are great for walking in the city. A stroller can really be annoying. I can't believe he's a month old already!!!
Eating, breathing and pooping. If you have all of those down at that point, then things are going very well :-)
Okay, there is one thing to do: Over the next months, try to take the kid to places with visual stimuli at different distances. The visual cortex is developing now. If they spend their entire time inside a small room, then they don't have the opportunity to look at distances - tree tops, clouds, whatever. Just stepping outside should do it. It doesn't have to be daily, but at least once or twice a week.

I had a very similar conversation with MH right around this same time. I kept saying, "But I feel like I should be enriching him!" He was like, dude slow your roll, just let him look at the ceiling fan since that's his favorite thing ever.
When not sleeping or eating he mostly just hung out with me, walking around the house or neighborhood, running errands, doing tummy time, or hanging out in his play gym.

No question is a stupid question when you're doing something you've never done before! I love that shaw you just posted a pic of him in! Hes so precious. We're spending Christmas in Lima with H's family... I cant wait to stuff my face with alfajores and humitas lol
Seriously, do you have a play gym/mat with a mirror? Let him lie there for a while. He's going to be a bump on a log for a few more weeks.
No I don't. Maybe I should get one?
He has a mirror and mobile thingys that hang from his mapper though.
Yes its crazy how much those entertain them in the early months. Singing and reading are good too. It doesn't have to be baby books at this age since they aren't into looking at pictures so if you want to rock and read the paper/a book just read aloud while cuddling together. But yes for the first months babies are pretty much sleep. eat, dirty diaper, repeat.
Just a warning, he might be a completely different baby once his due date comes. Within a few days of Tiffany's due date she completely changed. Our pedi was like yeah preemies do that.
I have heard from many other moms that they don't always say baby's name either. I realized about this time w c that I rarely used her name. Same w j. I think the ob even asked me if I was using her name, that its a common thing w new moms.
My baby just turned a month too. Like the others have said it's basically just eat, poop, sleep. When he is awake I'll play him music, sing, read a book, or just talk to him. I also try to do at least 5 minutes of tummy time with him and this past week we bought him an activity mat so I'll lay him on there for a bit too.

Ha. We might have overdone this. We chanted his name to him all the time (legit non-stop). He has a huge personality, maybe it's linked?

Haha maybe. Though c is pretty over the top personality too so not sure if its linked- unless I overdid it once I realized?
