I remember my mom trying to give me an ogilve home perm. She spent hours putting in the curlers and then did the chemicals backwards. I guess it was a good thing!
Don't do it. It destroyed my hair and made it super thin, breakable and gross. That was like 10 years ago. Maybe the process is less horrible now but I doubt it. Also, I wanted sexy beach curls and ended up with tight poodle curls.
I don't think most places above like, Great Clips or something, will even do perms anymore.
Do you have a place you go regularly already? They'll definitely be able to tell you your best options.
I did have a normal person, but she fucked up my hair so badly last time (and was completely unprofessional about it) so I'm searching for a new one.
I found an Aveda salon out here that does perms.
Aveda perms aren't any better. I love Aveda and go to an Aveda salon but the perms are like all the others. Please don't do it. Why do you want a perm? Subtle waves, less maintenance in the am?

Less maintenance in am. I have naturally wavy hair and would like it to be easier to style and more consistency.
You guys are pretty much convincing me it would be an awful idea though lol.

I got a couple perms in junior high/early HS. I just remember them smelling SO bad. They never took to my hair that well. I feel like, after a couple of weeks, most of the curl was gone and the process of getting them done was long and awful.
BUT they may have improved the process since then...that was 15 some odd years ago. I think if you do one that is more "body waves" than super curly curls, it might look good.

I had one in high school and it was great. My naturally stick straight hair just had really nice waves. I could sleep on wet hair and wake up with beachhead waves. However when I decided I didn't want to deal with the maintenance I basically had to get a pixie to cut all the permed hair out.

I'm glad I read this because I've been contemplating a perm as well. I have straight hair that is a little longer than my shoulders and wanted a perm to give it some style because I am super lazy when it comes to my hair. I guess I'll need to rethink.
