I'm curious what you all enjoy doing outside of house stuff. Show off your skills with bonus for pics!

i can knit without fear. Meaning I am confident enough to take on most any pattern or modify it on the fly to suit my needs. I can sew just enough to be dangerous. I don't do bad in the kitchen either. I just generally get a lot of happiness in making stuff in general. I would share pics but since I am at work I can't get to my flickr pics.

I enjoy experimenting with make-up, and I have a mild obsession with skincare. Make-up is so much fun because it washes off! I don't really have any super awesome pictures, but here is a recent one of the H and I from last Saturday. I had numerous people compliment me on my skin.   LOL.

 

I don't know if that's a skill or talent, but that's all I've really got......

I am a pretty badass swimmer, if I do say so myself. This is me after I got out of the water at a swim I did in February. The water was ~42 degrees.


ETA: I am fairly confident that I was commenting/thinking that I couldn't feel my fingers.  LOL

I'm a very good cook. And humble too.

I used to have a blog, but then the house happened and now my blog is almost 2 years defunct. *pours one out for the blog*

I'm particularly good at pastry. And gravy. And making shit up as I go. But gravy makes for less appetizing pictures. And the making shit up as I go was a detriment to blogging.





I also ride horses and it's very much like riding a bike so I still count it as a current skill, but I don't have any pictures of that handy since i haven't really done it for several years. *cries*

I'm a good cook and baker. I also play piano (not as well as I used to, but I hope to get back to it). I've done yoga for 10+ years, and I'm pretty good at that (if you can be "good" at yoga).

I'm an awesome crocheter if I do say so myself I'm also a national champion equestrian (riding horses) but haven't ridden for the last few years.

I crochet too!  But just Ok, not awesome.    I'm kinda slow.

what type of riding do (did) you do?

I did mainly QH circuit flat stuff. Hunt Seat Eq, Western Please, Horsemanship, Showmanship, etc. as well as true pleasure driving (not QH style), Arabian Saddleseat, and hunter/jumpers. 

The majority of my bigger awards are from Pony Pleasure driving.

I can milk cows and drive a tractor with the best of them. It's a fun party trick...ha.
I read really fast.
Before I was pregnant I ran a lot of 5ks. Wasn't pretty but it was fun. I'll get back into in the spring.
I can whip together dinner for 10 no problem and without too much stress.
I'm pretty good at cute outfits and determining what looks good. Not "trendy" and more "edgy" like the S*B girls. I wear a lot of normal stuff but I get a ton of compliments.

What did you do? 

Endurance Riding with a side of 4-H level western - mostly gaming.  My horse when I was in high school was a supposedly full-blooded (but unpapered) Arab who was CLEARLY part QH.  (he had a TOTAL QH butt.  And a very unarab head.) Mom bought him sight unseen from a friend of a friend of a friend who had trained him as a cowpony but decided he was too small (he was 14.3) I tried him out on barrels at a random 4H show went to kinda on a whim just for fun and he almost made me pee my pants because he saw the barrels and just WENT.  Apparently he'd done it before.  

Mostly just blasting around the trails near my house though.  My mom (and grandma and aunt) ride too, but mom was like the LEAST show mom ever so she encouraged me to stick to being just a lazy trail rider.

I am a really good writer. I started writing when I was 5. I don't have much time for it anymore, but I love putting a pen to paper and writing a poem or even a short story.

I didn't begin to feel more confident until I could fix my mistakes without tearing back  half of a sweater to do it.  And I would add a new challenge with each new project I completed. SO if I could only knit, then my next project would include purl stitches. And after that maybe some shaping with increases/decreases.  Then perhaps a cable or knitting in the round. Eventually I developed a pretty decent skillset and more confidence. Plus it is fun telling people you made something you are wearing. And I have super long arms so knitting my own sweaters solves the too-short sleeve issue I often deal with! so don't be afraid to challenge yourself! it is just yarn!

wawa, you look beautiful. I so wish I could do makeup. I suck at it. I got schooled once before my wedding - we got married way out in the sticks, too far for makeup/ hair people, so I had to do it myself. I've been married 10 years and guess how many times I've strayed from that one application technique? Shame on me.

Knitters demandypants, emjacobs & downtonali- are you all on Rav? I'd love to follow you! I love knitting and don't want to think about how mnay miles of yarn I've gone through.  I used to update Rav religiously but stopped when we bought the house, but I've been knitting more recently and am starting to catch myself up over there.

Me too - I was once super active and kept everything up to date. But I burned myself out doing a 52 in 52 challenge and then had Kate and then moved and then started a job and then bought a house and ... well... you know.

But now that the dust is settling I'm getting back in gear.

I'm good at playing the piano. Before DD was born I played in front of several hundred people x 2 services for church fairly regularly.

I can get people to give up a lot of info when I talk to them.
I am extremely calm under pressure. Give me a bleeding child or a crisis and I get in my zone.
I know a LOT of random stuff. It has become a joke with most people in my life. Like, "don't know the answer? Ask Katie!"
